Quote:
"Professor, what do you know about Yuuzhan Vong?"

The man standing before him was inverted. Rather he was hanging from the ceiling, his mouth filled with some sort of goo Artemis had inserted during his unconciousness. The Yuuzhan Vong's piercing red eyes peered into the baby blue of the scout that had survived the trap that had claimed three other lives - a trap that took the form of a pit of acidic Vornskyr teeth. Not all of the Voxyn had been formed properly, and the Yuuzhan Vong had left behind their predecessors' teeth and claws as tribute to the great mutation. Artemis had forgotten the location of the majority of the traps - but over the course of the last month, he had found some including the one this man was screaming for his life in.

The man wiggled in his cacoon-like cage, the blood rushing to his head as gravity began to work on him. He'd been like this for an hour; an hour more, and he'd pass out. For now, though, Artemis Obauldi wanted the man alive.

"Who's leading this expenditure?"

The man could obviously not respond.

"Why are you here?"

The man's silence continued.

"I see. You will not remain silent for long. Ha..ha...ha."

"HA!"

Artemis's left hand found itself wrist-deep in the captured man's stomach, blood squirting from the wound as the man shook violently back and forth, his eyes open wide. If he could scream, he would have - at the top of his lungs. However, the man was quickly losing breath as he began to choke on his own blood, unable to expedite his own death. His arm embedded in the man's belly, Artemis felt what might have been intestine and grabbed hold of it, squeezing. This invoked more pain as the man passed out, going into shock. Running his right hand along the man's chest and his belly, Artemis was gentle as he examined the human body in a very odd way.

Licking his teeth, Artemis feasted. Ecstasy ran throughout his spine as the Yuuzhan Vong tore sinew from flesh, barely taking the time to chew as he continued to satiate his maddenning hunger within the Monolith.

James was smiling, as he always did. It irritated some, and plain pissed others off, but it was his personality, and it always had been.

"Ma'am, where do you want me?" He asked the Instructor.

He was a thief by trade, but had been other things in the past, and knew the key to a victory over a well organized force, was to use their own strength against them. He had enough Mandalorian in him to love fighting from the front line, but enough of his mother in him to sneak behind them and sabotage their equipment..however it was up to her.

The attack had begun, but it was not the place of the guard to begin the fight just yet. The guard had the all-important espionage mission to take care of, to scout and analyze the defenses of the bandits and outlaws on this valuable, but ever-annoying planet. The animal life on the surface had not been as much of the problem that Ayreon though they would be, after hearing tales of the fears Vornskyrs and the like, but it still would have saved them some time if they could have moved on with out that fauna-based interruption.

Now all of the guard lay prone on the forested ground, and like the Captain, many of them did not like what they saw; some even frowned. Ayreon remained quiet.

Even though the base was heavily protected, with their target, the communications-jamming array being guarded, no doubt by a horde of soldiers on top of the visible shield generator, Ayreon didn't see it as an issue, not yet. They had all been well trained, well crafted by the will of the Empire and the skill of the guard in their lead. Ayreon was the first to speak among the group after the array was revealed, his whispering voice heard well through the impressive closed-comm network of the crimson guard helmets.

"Your orders, Captain?"

Viktor isolated the communication-line; presumably the jamming signal was only over a small section of frequencies - enoguh for the Darktrooper to be kept under control but enough to allow them to communicate with each other. The orders were simple. Get the Darktrooper out intact, and then aid the attack as much as possible. Both would be a challenge, but the unofficial motto of the Crimson Guard was "impossible is nothing". But they still had to find a way of destroying a shield generator - which wasn't a small building and probably had some guards - and then the outpost. They had two thermal detonators each, but Viktor prefered to only use them when absolutely necessary.

"The orders will be simple. Captain Faraway, lead beta team to the shield generator, and bring it down. I'll take alpha team to bring down the jamming signal. If you can, do it without allowing any guards to get messages out - and remember to put the silencers on your blasters. We want to avoid any alarms if possible." It wasn't - but the later the better. And, in the meantime, Viktor would have to find a way of working out where the Darktrooper was. He would get to that first.

OOC: S'ok, Saede, I'll just NPC you a bit in return ;)

Saede, it seemed, had more pressing matters than giving orders to the Alcine's and to James Torran. Nathaniel was not the most patient of young men and with his issues at respecting authority to begin with... well. His crimson eyes glinted when they failed to receive a response from the Crimson Ferret's First Mate; he looked to his sister with a sigh.

"I think we do this on our own then. She's too busy for us." Nodding at James, Nate added, "You coming?"

While he'd "whined" during the training routine, Nathaniel was starting to grow up a bit. And if having to be a quasi-leader of their defense and survival on Myrkr was a part of it, so be it. Or so he felt. Nathaniel strode away from where they'd waited on Saede, knowing that Serrena would follow if only because she wanted to keep an eye on her unpredictable "little" brother.

"What is in here that's worth defending?" Nate asked Serrena and James, referring to this outpost.

All activity on the bridge... All previous conversation with the Grand Admiral... His entire grasp over the current situation was drowned out by those words...

"Professor, what do you know about the Yuuzhan Vong?"

For several moments Mengol stood deathly silent; so silent, he could hear his own heart beat, and could feel the blood coursing through his veins. His mind became as empty a vaccuum as the endless, black space which engulfed the ship in which he stood. Memories of his diabolical experimentation upon the former Yuuzhan Vong Dread Lord flashed at lightspeed through his mind, frames reeling through a mental projector which echoed a loud thud at each brief image displayed. He had never encountered a more fascinating subject, nor created something so magnificent. His puppet... His labratory's spawn; no doubt as impacted by their encounter as the Professor himself was. The knowledge he had drawn from the beast was staggering... As was that which he had imparted upon it. Slowly at first, the universe began to fade back into existance... He could hear the background chatter of the bridge officers, far off in the distance; the mechanical blips and beeps of the sensory equipment... And then, it all surged at him like a tidal wave.

The Professor's lips crept in their crawl upwards, revealing a bright and ivory smile.

What do I know about the Yuuzhan Vong..? What do I know about the YUUZHAN VONG?!

Once again, the Professor burst into a gleeful, maddened, cackling fit - Unexplained, yet not altogether unexpected. He went on and on, buckling over and grasping at his bellowing belly, stoopign so low that his labcoat gathered in loose folds on the floor. His entire frame shook with each hoarse guffaw, until finally, his laughing fit came to an abrupt conclusion. As calm in composure as he had been before, he raised himself to his full height, smoothing out the wrinkles in his coat as he glanced aside to the Grand Admiral with a pleasant smile.

"...Unfortunately, I do not believe I can supply suitable knowledge which might be of aid in the campaign to come. What is left upon Myrkr is reportedly merely the remnants of the fallen. I doubt you have much to concern yourself with, Hat'ho'ruodo... There are no longer any Yuuzhan Vong in this galaxy."

A god loved its creation, and would never see it brought into harm's way... Mengol took a step forward and stared at the orb which now lay ahead of the Imperial fleet... Where had his beloved specimen gone since he had set it free..? Was it here, in the only place which it might be able to call a home..?

"What have we got?"

"Imperial landing craft - several zones. Myrkr-net is already stewing about infantry engagements."

"Any capital ships?"

"None detected - swept twice."

Arin frowned. Usually there would be at least one capital ship to support the ground troops. They were trying to catch Myrkr's defenses by suprise. All things being equal, a good-sized Imperial fleet would be arriving shortly. If they engaged, they'd probably be trapped. She sighed; the ship was salvaged to defend Myrkr. What good were they if they turned away the first engagement where they could make a difference?

"Bring us in low over the Imperial landing zones. Open up on their positions from as high an altitude as you can maintain and still provide effective fire. Keep moving and seek out Imperial infantry - blast them as you find them."

After a few agonizing minutes, the Venator was passing over the Imperial positions, and its mighty cannons were firing down on the ground positions. It was good that they could engage: Imperial armored units could withstand a lot from infantry and artilery, but were no match for shipboard assault cannons. They might burn a good amount of forest, but nature was resilient: it would grow back. The Empire had to be stopped here.

James looked at Nate."I'm with ya. What's worth defending? The armory, the com center, and the ships. Those should be primary points of defense, and we need to dig in deep. Most of the ships have turrets and at least marginal deflectors. So we can put fewer people on those. Or at least that's what I would do.

The fleet had entered hyperspace on cue, and had gone towards their goal. Of course, everything was planned to exactness. The plan involved them exiting hyperspace a distance from the planet, three lightdays to be exact. There would be no way that the enemy could know about them, logically, unless they could see into the future. Aurulius laughed at that notion, only those fool Jedi and Sith claimed that. Of course, they were liars, but that wasn't the important thing.

Everyone was ready, and the Commodore stopped them. This had been a great test, and he had seen that they were prepared for anything. They would make the enemy run for their lives. Aurulius chuckled as the ship neared the first little stop. Far enough away to stay hidden, close enough to where it is clear we are actually doing something. Jokingly he thought that to himself, pondering how exactly this would go. Kane Smart, he would be somebody that they would have to take out quickly. After all, Aurulius could remember hearing about the Mandalorian.

Money could buy ships, ships that would fight against the Empire. More ships, more men, that was something that the Empire couldn't risk. Two minutes. He thought to himself, counting down the time until the starlines would return to normal. One and a half minutes. They would be ready soon. Then they would probably get the intel from the Crimson Guard.

If only the Imperial Guards had remained, I don't know much of this group besides a few of the members. There are just too many changes. Then the time counted down to a minute. Everyone was ready for the time that they taught the outlaws that the Empire were a serious threat to them.

"....Cobalt....Crimson. Get clear. Forest no longer safe. Thanks for the relay. Drinks on me."

Reports up until then had been normal, and more or less what she'd expect. That last, though... Where was she supposed to go? The forest was burning, and eventually the Koahiko would be found. She had two options. Wait in her ship and try to keep contact up among the groups, or abandon it and take her chances out in the woods. The ones full of fire and vornskrs. Oh, and Imperials. Oh, and likely some opportunists who had no desire to protect the planet if they could make more of a profit looting and pillaging. Real promising plan, that.

She gripped the chair's armrest. Nothing to be done but wait it out, make her contribution now in the hopes that she'd be enough help to avoid needing to leave the Koahiko. She flicked on her comm to send the relayed message to anyone on any secure channel who might be listening.

"Urgent warning to anybody listening," she began with that maddeningly-upbeat demeanor Alema was bound and determined to maintain. "Unwelcome advance halted, but we're taking heavy fire. No count on casualties just yet, but Willy Pete is setting fires and Long Tom is at our backs. Plan is to hold as long as possible. Anyone with a copy, please advise."

Sending that over the secure channels might not be enough, though. She frowned. It was a dangerous gamble, but a short message shouldn't compromise her too badly. Myrkr was hell on sophisticated sensors, and with any luck that would make it harder to trace back any transmissions.

Alema switched over to the public alert channels. Civilian authorities used them a great deal and Alema needed them worse than they did.

"Breaker! Breaker!" The normal chatter on the channel died as Alema shouted into the mic, raising her voice to ensure they shut up for a moment. "Anyone in the forest needs to get the hell out. Imperials are setting fires and show no signs of stopping. Evacuate. Backing out for now, may return with news." There was a brief moment of silence before the agitated transmissions began again, and Alema turned the station back to 5-C.

She took a deep breath in the sudden silence. What else. She'd gotten the immediate concerns out the way but she needed to drop another response to Crimson.

Alema stood and braced herself on her panel by her fingertips, staring down at the console. She genuinely hoped that her contacts made it out of this alive. It was a dim feeling, and had less to do with compassion than a sort of vague creepy feeling that came with talking to a doomed man.

"Crimson? Cobalt. Sorry, that is a negative. Nowhere to go, so if you're still talking I'm still listening. You'll get news as I hear it. Over."

Hopping back into her seat, she rigged an automatic distress burst to transmit over 5-C in case the Koahiko were critically damaged. It wouldn't do her a @#%$ bit of good if the ship were vaporized in one shot, but if by some chance the ship went and Alema didn't, she might need someone to come her way and bail her out.

As for now... nothing to do but sit tight. Hope her contacts survived to give her more information.

New Post Re: Into the Jungle (Takeover of Myrkr - TGE)

The raging inferno swiftly consumed the area that the small group of individuals, the 'first line of defense' for the embattled, underworld controlled, world of Myrkr had previously found themselves. Blasterfire and reports from what seemed like tons of explosive munitions slowed and, in some cases, outright impeded their progress. But, their taciturn instructor would not be stopped. -Could- not be stopped, it seemed. Blaster bolts seemed opposed to the notion of striking the warrior. Missiles could not seem to find him. He moved with what seemed like utter contempt of the Empire's chances of killing him. His arm swept forward to urge the group to speed up. Was he mad??

Remaining low, as the Mando'ad merc had taught them, the remaining ten trainees made their way through the burning wood, coming to understand a very fundamental truth about the battlefield. If you think and move like you are about to get shot...you will. A muffled groan was that last anyone would hear of the rearmost man as a stray blaster bolt took a great portion of his face off.

Savin had his remaining nine troops hold position just at the edge of the growing forest fire that was on its way to overtaking them again as he heard his comm crackle to life.

~*Crimson? Cobalt...*~

He had to smile. At least her voice was pretty. That would be a nice thing to remember in the coming storm that was about to befall him and his troops.

~*Sorry, that is a negative. Nowhere to go, so if you're still talking I'm still listening. You'll get news as I hear it. Over*~

:::Osik:::

"Cobalt....Crimson. @#%$ sorry to here that. Guess that drink will have to wait..."

Savin took a single look at the sheer firepower that the Imperial forces flooded into the forest...and how quickly the fire was spreading toward them. Even there, out of the Empire's direct firing arc, they where -far- from safe.

"...looks like we're in the same kettle, Cobalt. No options left. Gonna make our stand here. Raise a glass to us if you get out of this mess..." It was odd how calm the Mando'ad was about what was sounding more and more like his imminent death. "..Crimson ou-"

In the matter of a heartbeat, the world around Savin exploded, sending him flying backwards into a tree with a crash and leaving channel 5-C to be filled with the uncertain sound of static for a full minute as the Mando was cut off mid-sentence. Stars filled the warrior's vision as he slowly got his bearings. His troops sprung into action and dragged him further back into the forest...and, hopefully, further away from the turbolaser fire that was raining from the sky over the Imperial LZ. -Finally-, some close air-support. That, or a Star Destroyer's captain was going to be beheaded for incompetence when this is over.

Savin clicked his teeth to open his comm.
"Cobalt! Crimson..I'm still here. But, I won't be soon if I can't get some coordinates to the incoming ordinance! Friendly fire, isn't bloody friendly! Relay these coordinates to the ship on station over Mark Three two three..."
The mercenary used the holo-automapping feature in his helmet to plot a firing solution for -about- where he thought the ship had to be to fire on the Imperial landing zone.

"Mark...three seven two by Mark five niner niner. Be advised that friendlies -are- in the area. Contain spread as much as bloody possible. Will remain on station to further direct fire for maximum effect."

Hathoruodo watched the madman's laughing fit and serene composure as he said that there were no more Yuuzhan Vong left. He seemed serious, and the Grand Admiral had always had a hard time working out whether he was telling the truth or not; but she could see on the reports that the Yuuzhan Vong tower was still active - whether criminals had captured and used it, she didn't know. She would have to trust his word that they would pose no threat.

She nodded, and looked out to the window. There were still no sensors around the rear sides of the moons, so withdrawing from hyperspace there would be safe. "Send a beam transmission to each Imperial vessel to tell them that the original plan is still fine," she said. No doubt there would be surprises, but they had a massive fleet - they wanted this planet a lot - and with Grand Admiral Hathoruodo in charge, they hadn't lost a battle. And they weren't about to.

Ready to enter the final hyperspace jump, she gritted her teeth, and wondered how the battle was raging down there - hopefully IIB wasn't outmatched. The battle should just about be getting started, and the Imperial Crimson Guard should be ready to wreak havoc now. But, had either been spotted early or the enemy positions been different, the battle could have been over by now. She would have to get there soon. But, waiting for the other ships' confirmation, she prepared for hyperspace herself; under 2 minutes was a short time and the army had to be ready.

Renze grabbed one of his men and propelled him towards the trench network around the city, the man stumbled, regained his balance and quickened his pace, thousands of men had now been transferred to the cities defences from Bouncer via LAATs, even as one group of the gunships disgorged another hundred or so men another was rocketing towards orbit for the next batch. Renze slapped the hull of one of his modified AT-TEs and the driver looked down, Renze made several motions and pointed towards the enemy AT-ST columns, the man nodded and spoke into his mic, several seconds later dozens of hailfire missiles shot forth towards the Imperial troops trailing purple flame.

Renze glanced around once more and nodded to himself, all his men were in position, Renze quickly ctivated his comm and called his personal pilot,

"get the dropship prepped and get my commandos loaded up, we're going to help Savin," Renze barked, switching channels Renze called Arin Ellis, "Arin? this is Renze, I'm going out into the jungle to help Savin, my troops are in position around the capital city, if I'm out of contact can you tell them where they'll be the most useful?" Renze sent the transmission and turned towards the landing pad, his men would be here soon and hopefully so would Arin's reply.

It was amazing how in such a short span of time everything could go to hell. The comm channels were a chatter with talk, everything from local militia in the city, communications between outposts farther away, and a voice she recognized at Alema's working in short bursts of unpleasant news. For a moment as she sorted through the incoming comms, she missed Nate and James's questions. Already the militia were prepped, weapons slung, what armor there was to be had buckled, snapped and cobbled into place. These people weren't here to protect the interests of the Underworld. These people had family here, and no matter their usual profession, that was the key to the battle for this world. The imperials had something to fight about.

These men and woman had something to fight *for*.

"Cobalt, Crimson- Red here," she finally popped in, more delayed than she would have liked. She already knew who crimson was from the relay... not many people used the same syntax Savin did. Scratch that. No one she knew used the same syntax Savin did. "Get the frell out of the soup. Retreat to cooler areas immediately. Rendevous point Second Rat, got it?"

Second Rat was one of several predetermined rendevous areas, this one less than a half a kilometer to the south of the outpost Saede was currently at, just within sight range of the outpost from the edges of the forest... and definately within sniper range of most of the outpost. Why did Saede care that Second Rat was within sniper range?

There was a particular imperial prisoner located at this outpost. One that she had no doubts the Imperials would be coming for at some point sooner rather than later. For a heartbeat, she debated simply blowing the bunker installation to pieces and hightailing it out of there. Let them sort through the mess and find the pieces they needed of their personel....

It wasn't her style. "Serrena, Nate, James," she finally barked out. "This'll be a war of guerilla tactics... not straight foreward fighting. We won't be defending this location, it's worthless. Get the militia into any vehicles there are..... anything that we can't use... scuttle. We don't want anything they can use left behind. Have the militia return to the city. On a volunteer basis only, I need up to twenty of you," that last part was addressed to the general group, not just Nate and James.

"I need twenty people willing to head out into the forest with me," she continued. "We rendevous at Second Rat immediately."

Glancing back at Serrena, Nate and James, she continued. "The volunteer thing goes for both of you as well. The city is full of these people's families... but even the battle there won't win or lose the war. It's up to both of you if you want to help defend that location or work with me in the jungle. Neither will be a picnic. Think about it, but don't think long."

Saede had *one* more thing to do before heading out into the forest. The tall redhead moved toward the only entrance to the bunker where the Imperial was held. She briefly considered going in and talking to the man for a moment.... but time was far more imporant now. Again, the urge to just blow the whole place to smitherines, but pulled that into check. Instead, she moved to the sliding door, pulling out her key card and dropping it on the ground. Drawing her blaster, she suddenly sent a single shot into the small plastisine datachip, rendering it a worthless blob. Even Wallace couldn't recover data that was no longer there.... a second bolt went into the locking mechanism itself. Even with a slicer, there would be no juryrigging the door open. Now, one last.....

"Serrena, toss me that hand welder?"

Saede snatched it out of the air a moment later, turning the heat array on the door itself. Bubbling metal surrounded the aperature, cooling swiftly. Standing back, she nodded to herself. Alright. That wouldn't stop them permanently... but it would slow them down considerably.

Why did it matter?

The bunker was in plain site from various points around the outpost. And that main door? Short of knocking the whole thing down, it was the only viable entrance without risking the death of their own man... and it was perfectly visible from sniper points at three seperate locations- one of them Second Rat.

"Alright, whoever's with me, we're moving out *now*."

"Acknowledged, and good hunting!"

Arin turned and activated her com system. "Helm: low course to Hyllyard City, park us ten kays out of city limits. Hangar: release Firesprays to continue arial attack on Imperial invaders. Communications: link in to Myrkr network and keep watch for Imperial capital ships."

As Arin watched the small clutch of oval silouettes shoot off to the forest seeking Imperials to disintegrate, a chill ran over her spine. She knew this would only be the beginning.

"Hangar: prep what fighters we have. I want them to be ready for deployment on order."

"Ayreon, wait," Viktor said as the Crimson Guard began to move. The entire group held their breath, ducking into the flora as Saede Taggart and company walked around the near-side of the outpost. They approached a building with thick doors, and Saede dropped the keycard before blowing it apart. Viktor smiled, before the woman blew the lock apart and sealed the door. He turned to the others, and spoke on the encrypted comlink frequency, "well, we know where he is." As the people moved out of view, he spoke again. "Beta team, get that shield down. The rest of you, come with me."

He moved through the forest around towards the south side, half of the group following him. He kept his eye out for any guards, and kept his communications link open on all channels to hear any messages between people - though it was unlikely to be that simple. He approached the nearest point to the tower, where he could see a sniper standing ready and the shield's faint blueish hue, and waited. As soon as Ayreon had the shield down, he would get the tower deactivated. It was the top priority for the team, with only a couple of minutes until the navy and army arrived from hyperspace.

The small defence fleet had assembled, Kane now had 8 ships of his own. Twelve older ships had been acquired for the up coming defence, most near the end of their lives but still the would be useful. Kane had also secured pledges of support from the Hapans, two Mandalorian mercenary forces who regularly bought and sold weapons to him. Finally a former Sep warrior promise several ships, a transport and several thousand mercs. Kane had exhausted all his immediate resources, his finjal option was a message that could benefit Myrkr greatly.

Bright crimson eyes blazed as she remained silent, staring down at her comlink and trading glances with the others. There wasn't much the young woman could contribute to tactics, and that bothered her to some small degree. A greater one if she was drinking, but she had the misfortune to be perfectly sober that morning.

She made a mental note of the mentioned positions and followed Saede as she strode across the grounds to a particular bunker. Serrena caught the hand-welder as it was tossed back at her, and she nodded grimly.

After Saede's barked orders, she turned and handed several keycards to one of the militiamen headed back into the city. Several whispered words ensured that absolutely no structure would survive the evacuation intact. Buildings could be always be rebuilt, Serrena thought, and she'd be damned if she left the Imps anything useful.

A brief pang of regret crossed her features as she watched a large contingent of them leave, heading into the direst of situations in an effort to save the lives of their loved ones. Distantly, Serrena wondered where Andros was and if he even knew that Myrkr was being attacked. Somehow, she was certain his absence was her fault.

"Right behind you, Saede." she said, echoing the call of several others with a grim nod. After everyone was equipped as needed, she spun on her heel as one of her blasters found its way into her hand. Several well placed shots later, the tiny munitions hut nearby began to rumble. One more at an opportune moment would see it explode sky-high, taking out anything in the immediate vicinity.

Renze snapped a clip into his DC 17 and checked his gear as the specialised commando LAAT/stealth touched down, the entire gunship was coated in a reflective surface that bounced comm transmissions, Renze glanced at his men, there were twenty three men in the troop bay, five full squads and Renze's men. Even with less than full capacity the bay was crowded, mostly due to the Bacta dispenser and extra comms and scanner equipment that allowed the gunship to operate as a mobile command center. Renze stepped aboard and tapped the intercom on the wall twice to let the pilots know they could leave now. The gunship shot into the air and turned towards the forest, Renze worked his way through the press of mercenaries and switched on the extra scanning equipment, they needed to find Savin.

The dropship touched down and the modified turrets deployed, the regular ball turrets had been removed in favor of lighter anti-infantry turrets that could be anchored firmly in place, the gunners clamped their weapons to the ground and shot a set of motion detectors into the surrounding forest, Renze motioned five of his teams out into the jungle and stayed with the last one to defend the CP. Renze watched as the pilot clambered out, set up a couple of personnel shields for the turrets and in a circle around the ship, Renze then enacted his favourite feature of the entire set, he hit a button an the troop bay doors locked in place, forming a roof that reflected scanners, effectively turning the entire operation into a blank spot to orbital Imperial sensors.

The scanners in the LAAT/s beeped and Renze moved in to check what had happened, the scanners had located Savin, Renze activated the comm system,

"Savin? this is Renze I have set up a CP in the forest and have the facilities to co-ordinate your forces and supply aid to your wounded, co-ordinates are as follows," Renze recorded the message and co-ordinates, before encoding them and sending them to Savin's comm link.

Alema listened to Crimson's burst and started at the end when it broke off suddenly. The channel itself had nothing. She took a deep breath and let it out with a frustrated groan deep in her throat. Well, that was that for them. And she hadn't really been getting any information fr--

Her thoughts were interrupted by another transmission. It was from Red, and though the voice sounded vaguely familiar, Alema didn't have time to puzzle out who it was.

Lot of good telling them to retreat now, Alema thought when the transmission finished. But things were heating up, and transmissions were coming faster now. She received Savin's latest message with some relief, and replied as soon as it had finished playing.

"Crimson! Word from Red to get the hell out. Rendezvous point Second Rat. I'll get word to the others next. Over."

Channel switch. Savin's message was next.

"Red, If you're in contact with the ship in orbit, tell them they have allies on the ground," she paused to send Savin's coordinates. "They need to watch their step with the guns. Crimson's group has been ordered to move out, but that ship still needs to watch it. I'll talk to them next, over.

Channel switch. The pace was picking up, and Alema couldn't help but find herself infected by the desperate, frantic energy of the combatants further south and east of her. Pushing back her emotions and concentrating on the task at hand, she opened up a channel to see about hailing that ship. She dropped them another burst.

"This is Cobalt, relaying a message from the ground forces." She punched in the coordinates Savin had given her for his men. "Tread carefully around these coordinates; we've got allies there. If you need to talk to them or me, flip on 5-C."

That done, she sat still another moment, rapping her fingers on the panel nervously. She wavered on telling the others where she was, though given the problems Savin was having, it might be prudent.

With that thought, she dropped the same burst to Arin's ship and to Red. "Guys? Cobalt. Stand by for coordinates. Direct combat isn't my style, but tell me if you need me." With that she sent them both the information they needed to get a rough idea of where she was. Their sensors wouldn't pick her up, which was a blessing in the case of the imperials, but it was less helpful when her allies were firing all over the @#%$ place.

"Blast," she muttered. "Everything's gone crazy. I can't even imagine the clusterf@#$ if they didn't have a relay." She pulled one lek over her shoulder and leaned back into her chair. She blew air past her lips, trying to keep herself calm. She was no help to them if she started getting agitated. If she stayed calm, it would be easier for them to stay calm, and that was absolutely essential.

Bad for morale to have your operator flipping out. Just need to be patient.

Nathaniel stopped up short when Saede addressed them. He blinked his crimson eyes at her, then at his sister. Serrena, it seemed, was going to follow Saede into the jungle.

What do I do?

He hesitated for a split second, wishing he had some sort of intuitive gift to know where he was supposed to be. His need for security made Nate want to go with them. At the same time though...

"I'll get into that village," he said with sudden decisiveness. "Get them to evacuate before the Imperials raze the town."

Yes, that's the right thing to do.

Nathaniel nodded at his sister. "Be careful. And comm me if you need anything."

As Arin settled into defensive command, intel started coming in. The movements of the Imperials was hard to pin down with the forest cover; but as she searched for trends rather than actual units, patterns began to show up. With those in mind she began to see a strategy, and several weaknesses.

"Ground forces: dispatch a full legion to the shield generator - set up an immediate parimeter and deploy a dozen AT-TE's to re-inforce fixed emplacements at even intervals. Each assigned cohort is to submit one squad for security detail: the facility is to be under full lockdown!"

Arin counted on her communications officer to interpret Nubian military structure into something Renze's troops would understand. Sitting back, she groaned slightly - they had taken too long to establish hard defenses. Even with comitting her full allotment of LAAT/i's to troop transport, they were going to have to make half a dozen trips. It couldn't be helped - the Empire was closing in, and they needed to respond immediately.

"LAAT/i command: twelve units are to be deployed for security detail for the defense facility - three to a side. All other units to take off at even intervals to provide consistent cover."

It was a start.

"Nate' going to warn the people, that's good, I guess that leaves me.

He saw Saede running, and caught up with her. She was welding a door shut, preparing to leave, and he had explosives to plant.

"Ma'am, I'll be with you, but I have a few preparations to make. Meet you in the forrest,"

He turned and started barking at the rest to jurry, get going. After an acceptable amount of people had left, he loaded as many mines into a pack as he could carry, and saw to it that the salvage was gotten out and the rest scuttled.

Ayreon nodded to the captain's initial order, but was not so hasty in his execution that he was not able to cancel his movements in time to accommodate the Captain's recanting of that order. They didn't have much time, he knew; with the outlaws moving like they knew something was up, they would have only a few minutes tops before reinforcements of any kind came to the aid of the bunker. Feeling for his hold out blaster and making sure the safety was off, Ayreon waited patiently until the female outlaw disappeared into the bunker. With the captain's observation, it was time to go.

With a quick hand signal, Ayreon and the group of guards that made up Beta Team disconnected from the main group and began their own silent relocation through the throes of the Myrkyrian forest. THeir target: the shield generator, their mission; to destroy, all of the guards knew what the parameters would require, and the potential risk, and yet none moved with any sense of hesitation. They would all fight for their empire, and they knew that none of them would die.

As Ayreon surveyed the situation, the challenge of the task became more apparent. Because they were at the edge of the forest, the architectural and ecological fates had deemed that the shield generator would best be placed on an open clearing; not too wide that a single figure, or a pair could not approach undetected, but enough that there was little to no cover except for a spots of brush... That gave Ayreon an idea...

An idea he couldn't explain because of the distant, constant chopping of marching reinforcements. The leader of beta team nodded; the guards with him were attentive.

"..That is the sound of a thousand terrible things headed our way;" which was a rough underestimate, they all knew, because the reinforcements they heard marching had the distinct ring of a whole legion on the march.

"Two of your create a distraction, something quiet, but enough to divert the coming reinforcements...And the rest, cover me."

With a confirming nod from the entirety of the guards, Ayreon moved from the forest to the field, while two of the guards went off towards the sound of the coming reinforcements for the pirates; within seconds, trees would be felled that would block the path of the reinforcements, forcing them to stop their trek to the shield generator to either move or go around said limbs, but it woule be enough to buy them the time they needed.

Meanwhile, Ayreon dove behind a large piece of brush, one of his only possible covers, and began the long journey towards the shield generator.

Arin sat and pondered the situation - was it wrong to send in the legion primarily as a march? Perhaps, but she couldn't commit everyLAAT/i to troop movement. The deployed dozen would have to do for a start; at least that would give them about a hundred pairs of eyes to a side watching for infiltrators. The other fifty-five centurys would have to hoof it. At the very least, they'd know if a problem occurred.

Intel came in - there seemed to be felled trees in the marching path. Three trios of gunships were dispatched: the path would be cleared momentarily, and the column would have a little air cover. Arin's fingers drummed her chair nervously - she could feel her resources spreading. The thinner they got, the harder it would be to focus firepower later. Still: Hyllyard City was heavily defended, and there was no open action at this time.

She wondered if it wouldn't be wise to send out a pack of AT-TE's to push out the Imperials. Arin pondered the idea for some time before finally quashing it. She wasn't going to eradicate nature for the sake of a few infiltrators. They'd show themselves at some point - and at that time she'd deal with them.

Reports came in: the defence squads were in place, and scout units were patrolling the parimeter on speeder-bikes while the gunships remained on station. The shield generator now had a cordion of over 400 troopers watching for trouble. Hopefully that would be enough.
