Having had departed from the Monolith, Artemis Obauldi watched as tyrannous machinations of the Empire pounded the air with slug after slug of explosives. They were firing at one of the thousands of encampments that were scattered across this world. Using the darkness of the jungle to his advantage, the Yuuzhan Vong stood beside one of the many Voxyn. His gauntlet carressed the beast's skinned head, the vile brute yawning as they stood spying upon the enemy. These jungles were once Artemis's - he knew how to walk amidst them without being seen.

The fallen Dread Lord looked as the Empire continued landing their forces, knowing now that many Imperials would be controlling the forefront of this invasion. Artemis wondered which of them remembered him - which of them would recognize his face as he would carve his way through their troupe. He wondered whether remembrance would flash in their eyes as he gutted them, digging his claws deep into their stomach's bile.

Artemis knew they would remember, but wondered if the Professor was counted amongst their number. Artemis wondered if Professor Mengol would remember how he had experimented upon the Yuuzhan Vong. Artemis wondered if they knew.

If they didn't now, they soon would. A war was coming, but it was not one that would see the Empire victorious.

Falcon Ghent, Imperial Darktrooper Phase III and captive of the Galactic Underworld, tapped his fist against the wall beside him, gently. After having trained in the suit for several months and then accustomed himself for weeks to having no control over the features, he had gotten used to subtleties - he could control the suit perfectly. Albeit that wasn't particularly useful, but he could put the very limited powers he had into good effect.

Tapping the wall gently, all around the edge at the same height, gave him an advantage. After pacing throughout most of the room, he was going to check these last couple of meters before confirming the exact location of the structurally weakest point. For obvious reasons, the sound that the tap made would be louder in thinner or less protected areas; and if he got his weapon systems online, he would probably be able to break out.

He finished tapping, and retraced his steps to an inch below one of the air vents, opposite the main doors. From here, he couldn't see the guards - but he could see the red sky of sunset, and could see across the plains before him. It was a beautiful sight - with sunset arriving, the IIB troops would have a much easier time of trying to break him out, if they were planning on that as part of the battle.

Kanes crew had just finished loading the security deposit into the transport ship when the beacon from Myrkr arrived with news that the Empire had infiltrated the planet and ground based bombardment was occuring.

The Mandalorian was straight onto his weapons factory to prepare the fleet.

"This is Kane, load all ships now for planetary strike, remain on standby for my command to move. There is confirmation of an Imperial attack on Myrkr but invasion has yet to be confirmed."

Kane then turned to Brannigan, his 2nd in command.

" Tell the mercs they are on my payroll now and send a team to Myrkr to report current status"
Brannigan nodded. " Yes commander, will their be anything else?"
Kane was silent for a while. " Yes, send a message to Hapes, remind them of what we did for them and tell them I might take them up on their offer, find out what they are willing to send, then offer them 50 million of sep creds for more back up."

Kanes crew began working frantically to get into flight, he would meet the rest of the fleet before continuing on to Myrkr.

Ava had watched on as Saede started teaching the militia combat moves. Not really paying too much attention though as she cleaned some of her artillery. Earlier, she had been teaching some the art of sniping. Lifting up the gun, she leveled the eyepiece to her face. Aim was precise as she looked at some fruit in one of the nearby tree. A blast now flying inches from one of the mens head and making it's target. The man still visibly shaken as the fruit exploded. "Sorry," she chuckled as she went back to polish it and move on to the next.

The thick forests of Myrkr teamed with various life forms at any given time. From the ysalamiri and the vornskrs that prey on them to a rare species of mynok, indigenous to these forests. Upon the night landing of the Imperial forces, a vast number of these species where displaced and unsettled by the arrival of the invaders. Little did these invaders know that the indigenous predators where not the only hunters that the Imperial's landing roused into action.

Savin was rather proud of his group. 24 men and women that he had been drilling in the fine art of espionage for the purpose of being advanced recon had taken to their studies well. It helped that all of them -wanted- to learn what he had to teach them. And they had a professionalism about their number that one would not expect to find amongst a group of civilians. They -knew- the danger their task would entail and wanted to learn from the man that could teach them how to survive it and get the job done. In that, they where fortunate that Seade had tapped the Mando'ad mercenary soldier.

It was a fortunate coincidence that Savin had -just- had them go over one of his lessons on defending from an attack from the forest as the first Imperial landing craft broke through the atmosphere. Sending a majority of his 'commandos' back to the armory to retrieve a few supplies, he had the rest fan out and begin gathering intel on the landing force, relaying numbers, make and overall strength of the incoming invasion force as they set up. It was daunting the sheer size of the assault force. But, due to it's girth, the lumbering beast that was the Imperial offensive would take precious hours to make itself ready for action.

-Plenty- of time for Savin and his 'dirty two-dozen' to discern their path of assault and to rig a myriad of explosive surprises for troop and transport, alike. Triplines connecting to mines attached to trees would bring the smaller trees down on advancing AT-STs, hampering or outright destroying a majority of them. And the one's that where merely detained would find plex missiles seeming to emanate from the very forest, itself, slamming into them and further denying the Empire it's assets.
Entire platoons of Stormtroopers would encounter anti-personnel mines, makeshift traps such as shallow pits, falling logs the size of speeders and even beast traps. Snaring the legs of troopers only to see them gunned down in their confusion. And, of course, there was the sniper fire from, seemingly, nowhere.

All the while Savin's group, now divided into 8 packs of 3 for both mobility and stealth, continued to harass the Imperials while reporting their movements to the rest of the Underworld forces. All except for Savin's three man squad, however. He had a mind to locate and silence the Imperial artillery. All he had to do was circumvent a massive landing force of well-trained Imperial officers with a pair of aruetiise civilians that he had just trained a few days ago how to not get shot while trying to be sneaky in the forest.

Joy.

James was sharpening his favorite knife, and watching the woman named Ava scare the hell out of people with that sniper rifle of hers. He couldn't help but laugh when that fruit exploded....the look on that guy's face, it was hilarious.

Three strokes down the stone on one side, three strokes on the other. There, two hours of that can change a blade alot. He thought, and tested the blade with a piece of paper. Dropping it from 10 cm., and the paper split in half.Perfect.

Alem'anilim was pleased to be back in her ship. Any venture outside into the overgrown jungle mess tended to leave her stuck with an entourage of rodents and lizards. The rodents she hated most. Nasty furry little things, their little noses quivering in the air as they tried to get to know her better by crawling on her skin and pressing their faces against it. No amount of brushing and kicking and venomous whispers would dissuade them, and in the end she'd been resigned to letting one stay.

Could be worse. It was just a snake, and it was actually a healthy shade of green instead of being covered in stinking matted flea-ridden hair like the rest of the tiny critters Alema had found. Privately she counted herself lucky that these were the only animals that had come her way. She had more to fear from a curious vorkskr than an affectionate reptile, and she had no doubt they'd find their way to her eventually if she spent too much time outside her ship.

Oh well. If nothing else, they might be in the area and if she weren't outside her ship perhaps they'd deal with anyone who was. The Maker knew that filling one's backyard with the vicious canines wasn't a bad idea as long as Alema herself had no intention of spending quality time with them herself.

It had been worth it, though. She'd managed to buy some fruit earlier in the day in exchange for rewiring a civilian's holonet receiver. The heat and moisture had been screwing with the wiring, and Alema had gone through and replaced what wires she could with optical cables and got the stupid thing working again. It was busywork, but it was his pride and joy and she supposed if nothing else he and his friends could--

Her train of thought was broken by a burst of transmitted audio from her comm array. It was only about half a word, maybe a syllable or two. She sat up in her chair, taking her feet off her front panel. The snake draped over her neck placidly adjusted itself in mild distress to keep from slipping off of Alema when she moved.

Her personal comlink had picked up a signal as it scanned through non-secure channels. With nothing better to do, she idly plugged it into her communications array. Maybe if she gave it a boost to its power supply...

"Ah!" she said. "There we go..."

...imperial landing craft...entering the atmosphere to...investigating potential invasio--

"Oh... crap."

Dialing the volume down on the machine so she could hear herself think, she flicked on her transceiver. She recorded a short message and sent an encrypted microburst across several commonly-used frequencies.

"Cobalt reporting unwanted guests coming down through the atmosphere. Relay information to channel 5-C."

Well, she thought. Not the flashiest or most glorious job ever, but talking to each other is always a helpful first step in any team effort. With luck someone'll answer... and Koahiko will make a much more reliable relay than anybody's personal comlinks.

"Yes Ma'am, and the hull is in reasonable shape. We've got all the holes patched and she'll be up and flying in minutes."

Arin nodded. It was bounty hunting, at least of a sort. Myrkr was building up a defense, and she was aiding other outlaws in locating and salvaging capital ships. The venator they were working on had been in a few scrapes, but it wasn't in terrible shape - at least, now that they had brought together the salvaged parts of a half-dozen ships, it wasn't in terrible shape. This was the normal way of this work: about a 20% return on located hulls.

She didn't have the starfighter support or the ground equipment - either destroyed or distributed. Still: a capital ship was nothing to sneeze at, and they got all the weapons working. Myrkr was going to be pleased. As the ship's systems groaned to life, the mechanic grinned widely. "That's it - we're up and running!" Turning to Arin, he settled into a wide smile. "You know - it should be christened."

Arin looked down the hull, which still maintained the red markings of the Old Republic. It was probably going to end up with Renze - either that or with Captain Marcus. "Know that I christen her the Scarlet Tabbard. May God grant her grace and favor wherever she flies and whomever crews her. Set course for Myrkr."

Several hours later found the Tabbard entering Myrkr space. The com' board and sensors lit up with the situation before them: the Empire had decided to invade again - this time in force. Arin and her skeleton crew of salvagers had just been thrown into the thick of it, and even with working weapons it wasn't like they were crewed to run them all. Arin slumped in the captain's chair ... this was trouble.

I should've named her the Brown Trousers.

"Is anyone else wondering that?" Saede asked the assembled group. There were a couple of nods, a grumble or two.... Saede just smiled.

She beckoned Nathaniel to come over, speaking while he made his way from his partner with the sparring knife. "There are times for brute force, and there are times for finess. A fist fight, well, you need to be able to knock your opponent on his behind without a second thought. But when you are unarmed and your opponent carries a weapon, of any sort mind you, they automatically have the advantage."

When Nathaniel made it to the front, she motioned for him to attack her. "Alright, just take it slow so they can see, alright?"

When he nodded, she fixed her attention on the teen. He came at her, the knife poised to slice her stomache open if she did nothing about it. Without thinking, Saede through a punch, the blow coming short of Nathaniel's face by a scant inch.... but the knife also less than an inch from her stomache. "Stop there and hold," she said, then glanced back at the group, frozen in that position. "Brute force.. yes... I would likely kill him with a shot at the exposed bridge of his nose. Very brutal. But would I survive with an open window into the inner workings of my body? I think not. Step back, come at me again."

He obliged, and this time, rather than throwing a punch, Saede executed the move she'd shown them.... sidestepping, her hand sweeping out to slide Nathaniel's knife hand away from her... but rather than stopping there like they had been practicing, she closed her thumb and forefinger around the mound of his thumb and with a sharp pivot of her hips, flipped Nathaniel head over tea kettle onto the ground, using his own momentum against him.

"Not only is your opponent no longer a threat, but you have them in a very, very awkward postion," she said... she hadn't let go of his knife hand, the blade effectively useless and the position more than a little bit uncomfortable. "With a sharp twist, I could break the smaller bones in his wrist and thumb. Not to mention that your opponent is in perfect line for a downward strike from your off hand or a kick right to the head."

These she did not illustrate.

"Any questions?"

There were none.

Letting Nathaniel back up, she grinned at him.

"Alright, pair up again, but we're going to do some more practice on disarming a blaster wielding opponent, the moves we worked on yesterday, alright?"

Not as though they would get far. Saede's comm chirped softly at her, and she paused a few moment's later, frowning. There shouldn't be anyone comming her right now, she thought, flicking the device open..... hazel eyes narrowed, and suddenly the laid back instructor had vanished.

"You're about to get to use some of that training gents," she barked out suddenly. The militia men had a moment of silence, but they knew perfectly well what she meant. "Imperials have landed. Get your gear."

Already? They must want us dead bad.

He ran to his foot locker, and armored up. He didn't use much, but it was enough. An anti-balistic mesh jacket with a few extra armorweaves added. After suited, he holstered his DL 44 blaster, and dagger, then picked up his favorite blaster rifle, and old A280 that he had liberated from a Mandalorian in a pazaak game.

He slammed his chest, and ran as fast as he could to join the Instructor.

Renze turned as one of his scans officers turned and told him there was a huge hotspot on the thermal scanners, Renze whipped around and furiously gestured for him to bring up a visual, Renze waited for a few seconds until the bridges main screen showed the plain with what looked like at least an entire division of stormtroopers and AT-STs advancing across the planet. Renze turned to his first general,

"alright, recall the R&R dropships and have the men inside gear up for combat, send out LAAT/v with AT-TEs to take up positions around the capital, have Archer move into orbit over the city in preperation to accept wounded," Renze turned and then he had another thought "oh and have Bouncer bombard the enemy forces to cover the troop insertion."

Renze walked over to the turbolift and hit the button for the hangar level.

Renze stepped out of the elevator just as the infantry gunships returned, one of the men stepped down from a dropship and opened his mouth to speak, Renze made a short cutting motion and pointed to the armoury, the man nodded and ran towards the doorway. Renze locked and loaded his DC 17 carbine and leapt up into the gunship, a few minutes later dozens of men sprinted out of the armoury and piled into their dropships, as soon as all dropships were loaded they shot out of the hangar bay and shot at full burn towards the planets surface.

Nathaniel blinked, rubbing his lower back. He hadn't expected Saede to be able to throw him nor had he expected this sudden announcement that the Empire was descending on them. Again.

"And here I thought when you flipped me, you had more fun than just that in mind," he quipped at Saede as he passed her. He winked a crimson eye at her, smoothing his tunic and heading toward the corner where his weapons waited.

In truth, he found Saede very aloof. Joking with her was like joking with a rancor, but he did it anyway, hoping for some sort of reaction besides coolness. Nate hadn't seen Kiara in weeks, so why not hassle Saede a little?

Strapping his belt and baldric back in place, Nathaniel had his charric slung low on his hip and his Echani sword readied over his shoulder. The young warrior was ready for anything and more than eager to take on the Imperials again. He'd been imprisoned by them once and had escaped; he'd tear them apart for causing trouble again.

"Orders?" he asked Saede.

Renze was out of the dropship before it hit the ground, Renze glanced around to make sure that his tanks were in position and all the sandbags were in place and the men were in their places. Renze climbed down into one of the trenches that had become common place on Myrkr and grabbed a set of macrobinoculars and scanned the horizon. Spotting the Imperial troops making their way slowly across the huge open plain, Renze turned and pointed their positions out to his comms officer, the man looked through his own macros and started speaking into the comlink.

Renze watched for a few minutes and was about to turn and give the man a quizzical look when crimson turbolaser fire started raining from the sky, Renze chuckled, whoever volunteered to lead that op must be regretting it now. Renze grinned maniacally as AT-STs started exploding and stormtroopers started turning into a wierd steam.

Renze keyed his comm and called Bouncer, "get all V-19s into covering positions over the city, and get Archer and Crimson Badger into low orbit covering positions over the plains, and keep Bouncer in high orbit to keep the Imp fleet at bay when it arrives," Renze watched as all fifty of Bouncers V-19s swooped down and started strafing the Imps, unfortunately that mean that Bouncer couldn't fire any more, Renze shrugged and went back to organising his troops into defensive positions all around the city.

Renze's men and vehicles were almost in position when he had a thought, he didn't have nearly enough men to cover the entire city, activating his comm link again with a sigh Renze dialled Saede's training ground, "Saede? it's Renze we're going to be attacked at the capital soon, the Imps don't do things half way, so could you see your way clear to sending some troopers."

Blazing crimson eyes widened in disbelief, her expression slack as she stared down at the comlink in her fingers. "Fraggin' hell..." Serrena began, and then promptly continued, a shouted string of Cheuhn and Tanaabian curses flowing past her lush lips. She took a half step forward and flung herself off the edge of the high platform, leaving the other militiamen to await orders.

She tumbled through the air, landing with surprising grace on her feet in the training yeard. Serrena sprinted to where Saede and Nathaniel stood, fingertips checking her various weapons out of pure reflex. She thanked every deity she'd heard of that Savin was already out in the field - his training run couldn't have come at a more opportune moment.

A man stood near his scout bike - his partner disembowling across the small expanse of woodland they had occupied. They were Scouts - and by the look of their gear, they were Imperials. The man who was waiting his partner was eating a choco-bar, while his partner was yelling about the lack of toilet paper and how the leaf he was using was currently gooey. Neither of them saw the beast with the yellow eyes. Neither of them saw Artemis Obauldi. Neither of them knew until it was too late what was about to happen. The Yuuzhan Vong had occupied this forest for the last half hour, and had quite the collection of scout troops on his tab already. Only in this area were there a concentration of them. Only in this place was there enough curiosity to draw the late Dread Lord.

Artemis stalked, but neither he nor the scout troop could match the beast with the yellow eyes's speed.

The choco bar went down, falling from the grip of the now screaming man. The other scout, coming from around the tree while he tightened his belt, looked upon his friend in horror as the man's partner was mauled. An amphistaff shot from across the expanse, lancing it's target to the ground as the scout had nothing else to look at other than the staff penetrating from his chest. Artemis Obauldi walked over to him, the crunching of the leaves drowning out the man's quieting gasps for air as his lung was obviously pierced. The cowl of the cloak draped over his forehead, casting a shadow upon the cruel Yuuzhan Vong's face. Only a white chesire smile was visible.

"You've come to the wrong forest, friend."

With a twist and a turn of the amphistaff, the scout died.

His orders, though they were boring, meant that he was more likely to be successful. And if Blue failed, Aurulius would be ready to make sure that things didn't do too bad. Aurulius made sure that everyone was ready, everyone at their stations. Two minutes. Aurulius timed it out himself, then he slowly counted down the time before they would enter hyperspace to get to their destination.

The gravity well side of a moon, and that would hopefully hide them. The colonies would be targeted, but that wasn't his primary concern. The first thing he was worried about was making sure that the pilots were out. Fighters needed to be protecting the Star Destroyers. The bombers needed to be ready as well. That was the easiest way to take out the colonies. Everything seemed to be going perfect.

We should have gone after these fools ages ago. They don't stand a chance against the Empire, not organized enough. Besides, The Imperial Navy is the greatest in the galaxy. With me leading, that's more than true. He chuckled at his own thoughts, his arrogance showing through his expresssion. Turning around, he looked at the crew. Everyone was doing their job, and Aurulius couldn't help but grin. It wasn't likely that those outlaws enjoyed such efficency.

Damane looked out of the bridge window on his flagship, Harvester of Sorrow the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer he stole from Kuat. "How many ships were we able to hire, Captain?" He looked at the ex-imperial officer, "Around ten sir, mostly busted capital ships, but a few are in good condition. Nothing that can stand a chance against the Imperial fleet." Damane nodded.

"I once beat an Imperial admiral at chest... well, not really, thats just stupid... anyway, thats not the point. We'll hold back the troopers, and hopefully others will be ready." He pasued, "Oh and, prepare my E-wing." Damane's happy impression turned to a scared, nervous, not-so wanting to do this look. "Captain, should we run?" Damane asked, "Er.. Just kidding" He smiled before turning back.

"How lonk 'till Myrkr?!" Damane shouted.

"About ten minutes."

Damane turned and looked at the man, "I don't like it, make us go faster." He grunted, "Sir we're going as fast as we can, we should actually breaking right now or we'll run into the planet...."

"What are you dopes thinking? slow us down before we crash!" Damane shouted orders. "And tell those no good, poor smugglers or mercs to follow my orders! And that we're dealing with something we can't possibly win." He cleared his throat before stumbling forward, "Sir, we've arrived and Myrkr, coming out of hyperspace in, 10, 9, 8 , 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1." The fleet suddenly stopped. His jaw dropped as he saw the Imperial Fleet. He turned, his face now stone, "Get those droid tri-fighters out there, and the X-tie wings."

He glared, "Tell the providence destroyer to swing infront of us, and fire its flak guns. Get the gunships to defend it against the fighters. I want the light destroyer to use its long range attacks against the small star destroyers along with the frigate."

"And get some troopers down on the planet, with vulture droid transports." He sighed, this would be the first time he would go against the Imperial Navy, "And tell the hired ships to advance forward. And let them draw enemy fire. Once I get safely down to the planet get our ships out of here, we can't risk these being destroyer." Damane turned, looking at the Captain he was giving the orders to. "So sir, you want us to leave those people to die? That sounds like one of the best ideas you have come up with." The captain smiled before turning and leaving the bridge.

"Get some MTT's and some of those Imperial walker things down there too!" He yelled before the turboblast door closed.

He wondered why he was doing this, some reason he felt like he should be running instead of fighting. He knew he couldn't win without some major capital ships, and help. He turned towards his communications officerm "Find out where the hells Kane Smart is." He sighed, "And get me my spice."

The young man tensed as lay his finger across the firing trigger for his plex missile launcher. He couldn't see why he should wait a moment longer to make the AT-ST in his field of view vanish in a cloud of smoke and flame. It was -hunting- them. The foul mechanized beast wanted their blood. Why give it another chance to spot them? What was this crazy Mando waiting f-

"...Wait for it.."

The newly-trained guerrilla wanted to fire so bad, he could taste it. The AT-ST lumbered ever closer, threatening to uncover the trio's seemingly paltry attempt at hiding in the brush and kill them all. He was getting sick of this mercenary telling him to wait with a hushed whisper that still fully conveyed the Mando'ad's rumbling accent.

"...Aim for the right knee actuator.."

Screw this suicidal Mando! He may not care about his survival but the rest of them did. Stupid Mando's -live- for this crap. He was done listening to this guy. He was going to pull this trigger and f-

"...Fire!"

The young man waisted -no- time in depressing the trigger and letting his explosive offering fly at the AT-ST, trailed by a plume of thick white smoke. The scout walker's right knee joint took the full brunt of the blast that expanded from the damaged leg like fiery tendrils with claws of shredded metal. It was then, and only then, that the young guerrilla could see the two squads of Scout and Stormtroopers that marched with the walker, practically underfoot. Of course, he only saw them for the moment it took for the walker to crush them with its weight when it toppled over on them, as they where making ready to advance.

So much for that idea.

"Nice shot ge'verd."

"How did you..." The young man was flabbergasted. The Mando couldn't have -seen- those Scout troopers. They where camouflaged so well, the only reason that the only reason that -he- saw them was that they where illuminated by the detonating plex missile.

"Scout walkers need targets to be effective. In dense terrain like this, they would need infantry to ferret us out so the ST can vape us. Basic tactic with medium to heavy armor like an AT-ST."
The warrior seemed to answer the question off-handedly as he checked his verpine repeater and gave the third member of their group the time she needed to reload the launcher with another missile. The young man nodded in awe of this man's cool and, seemingly, sage knowledge of the battlefield. Maybe the stories where true? Maybe Mandolorians -were- born with a blaster in their hands.

"That, and the optics in this helmet are frellin' kandosii ..C'mon..we move."

The fully armored Mando'ad rose to head away from their position in a low crouch-run. Of which, his partners, smartly, mimicked. They covered all of about 40 feet before Savin crouched and gave them the hand signal to hunker down and go stealth. The pair of guerrilla fighters did as they where told, one of whom did so with additional trust and understanding. This Mando knew what the hell he was doing. Maybe they would get out of this alive, after all. That was when Savin pointed out a pair of scout walkers just before motioning to the guerrilla to hold his fire as he accessed his helmet comm.

"<Skrrrsshhkk>..Dusk two and three...maintain anti-armor operations. Initiate radio silence as of now. Burst trans to Cobalt--mission critical only. Watch your shebs, lads and ladies. Crimson out." He was not sure who this Cobalt was, but she seemed to be the main reason any info from the front was getting back to the rest of the militia. As far as he was concerned, she was a godsend.

Savin switched over to 5-C as he clicked his teeth to activate his comm again.
"Cobalt....Crimson. Relay, priority one, to Red. Light-medium armor on approach. Multiple vectors. Mark zero seven two one two by Mark three three seven gamma. Full escort to each. Unable to delay the party. Expect visitors..."

If Savin was unsure is this "Cobalt" could understand the military shorthand for 'AT-STs and troopers on imminent approach from these directions. Unable to stop them all and some have gotten through', he showed no outward signs of it.

"Alright...target the left walker...aim for just under the right knee actuator. Get ready for a quick reload.."

The launcher operator simply nodded and took careful aim through the plex launcher's sight, resigning to never question this man again.

"Target locked.."

"...Wait for it..."

He would. He -trusted- in this Mando warrior. He who seemed to have been bred for this moment. The heat of battle seeming to fit him as a bird belonged in the sky. He would wait an eternity if he needed to...Until this mountain of a man told him to-

"..Fire!"

As soon as the infantry came under attack, High Commissar Gould's expression twisted into a sickening smile. The AT-STs came under rocket assault as well as traps that had been placed ahead. So be it, the assault would cease for the moment, the guerillas would be dealt with, engineers would go forward, and the attack would continue. It was just a matter of dealing with the whelps that called themselves warriors. No soldier would ever side with criminals, Gould would rather find himself in charge of the Republic forces, even they held discipline.

But the Imperial Intelligence Bureau never ceased in its tricks. The mechanical monsters known as Commissar's were attached to every squadron of nine IIB troopers, whom themselves held standard issue repeating rifles and some carried attached heavy weapons. The troops were desinged to be able to fight without support, and therefore needed to be armed with whatever weapons might be necessary to accomplish the mission. The Commissar's vision implants allowed them to sight out the locals of blasterfire and direct the fire of the attached squad.

The remaining AT-STs were ordered to forgo targeting and sweep the forests with blaster and rocket assaults. Gould watched as rockets impacted on trees and holes appeared across the ground. In the centre of the IIB formation, behind the frontlines just slightly, troopers began slinging mortars into the forests. For the forested landscape, they had been armed with napalm rounds, in an attempt to light the forest ablaze.

The squads themselves quickly organized and began moving into the forests, the frontal units hurling grenades into areas believed to be housing guerillas. Gould watched as the forest went ablaze with explosions from mortars, grenades and AT-ST side mounted rockets. The exchange of blasterfire was immense, the IIB forces throwing hundreds of bolts into the forest.

High Commissar Gould raised his repeater and held down the trigger and emptied the clip into an area where blasterfire had come from. If anything else, it would keep their heads down while his troopers moved in to finish them off. Ducking away behind his squadron, Gould pulled out his radio and redirected the artillery fire to the coordinates that would set the shells to fall directly behind the guerillas, cutting off their escape route back to the Criminal cities.

Keeping the repeating rifle is his mechanical right hand, Gould drew his Bryar pistol in his left and began firing into the forest. It was pointless to go in, the chance of a fire starting was immense, and Gould could already see smoke raising, quickly followed by the now redirected artillery fire from the guns.

Dark blue lips curved in a smile as she got a burst transmission from someone who seemed to be helping head their ground forces. She had no way to know who this Crimson was, but as far as she was concerned he had new information and that made him her new best friend. Alema jotted down the specifics to ensure she recalled them properly and flicked her recorder back on to relay the message. Her voice was calm and smooth as a stewardess pointing out escape pods and offering bagged snacks.

"Message for a Red from our friend Crimson. Light-medium armor approaching from multiple vectors. Mark zero. Seven. Two. One. Two. By mark three. Three. Seven. Gamma. Full escort with each, expect some to be headed your way. Anyone with a copy, come in."

Just as she'd done before, she sent the burst over several secure, commonly-used channels used to keep the rogues and thieves of Myrkr safely in touch. With luck, she'd get specific channels for her contacts and she'd be able to get away with sending out fewer bursts. Koahiko didn't have the armor or weapons to defend itself against a Imperial air strike if they managed to locate her, and she'd rather not take the risk.

While she waited for a reply, Alema stuffed her personal comlink in her pocket. She added her baby, a slightly modified PAC20 visual wrist comlink. If she had to abandon her poor Koahiko at any point, she'd need to have a couple of standbys to alert the others of her status. As an afterthought she grabbed a shoulder pack and put in the half-built scraps of elecronic mess that would eventually become a comm laser. If nothing else it had been her pet project of late, and she felt protective of it for purely sentimental reasons. Limited usefulness, but a very neat thing to keep around in case jamming were a problem.

In this case... Alema was willing to bet that the Imperials needed their own communications too badly for large-scale jamming. Their usual advantage was their ability to organize, and she doubted they'd want to give it up just to deny it to a bunch of criminal rabble.

Just wait'll I get myself a husher mike, she told herself. As an afterthought, she grabbed her new snake from her chair where he'd fallen and tossed him up around her neck again. Lizards were fairly inoffensive, and she found she enjoyed the company. If nothing else, she could feed it the tiny hairy filth that crawled on Myrkr's face. The thought of feeding her new snake brought a smile to her face as she kicked back and waited for another call to relay.

As the troops started to become alerted to the new danger on their east side, Viktor turned to the others. Motioning for them to follow him, he stepped gently towards the edge of the forest. Again he ducked low, moving on his elbows and belly to the tree on the very edge, hoping that the other Crimsons would spread out behind him. He looked around, using his internal binoculars to zoom upon any antenna, looking for the jamming signal.

He eventually spotted it, but didn't like what he saw. It was atop a lookout tower, shielded from a generator next to it. That would take some destroying - but they had to try. Viktor decided to wait for the opportune moment to attack, keeping his eye on every guard around.

"Keep your heads down, you di'kuts!!"

That old maxim of the battlefield was the only thing keeping Savin alive, save for luck as the Empire brought the brunt of its forces to bare. The ground quaked with the incalculable reports from an innumerable amount of weapons fire that littered the air with ozone and peppered the ground with scarlet blooms from fulminating devices.

The sheer volume of simultaneous weapon discharges in this, relatively, small area was staggering to say the least. The forest raged with flames, the Empire's napalm doing it's job admirably. Savin soon found his trio of guerrillas joined by nine other units that found themselves faced with the decision to stay where they where, or burn. The Empire could not target them from the trees, true. But, the flame knows not the concept of accuracy. It simply consumed -all- in it's path. Including six of Savin's 'troops'.

<Skshhssshhkkk>"Cobalt! Crimson! Priority one for Red and any swabby that has their ears on..Unwelcome advance halted. Taking heavy fire..taking casualties. Willy Pete set the forest ablaze! Long Tom is at our backs..Situation--Critical. Will hold as long as possible, but the party's almost over." He waits a moment before continuing.
"....Cobalt....Crimson. Get clear. Forest no longer safe. Thanks for the relay. Drinks on me."

With that, the warrior closed his comm and took a good look at the tactical catastrophe that he had stumbled into.

"Alright..listen up." Yelled he as he motioned the leads of each three-man cell toward his tree.

"Arm your launchers and fire. Aim for the supplies and any ammo cache you see. One shot and then you ditch them, switch to slugthrowers. Snipers are to set up shop, take the shot, then vacate. Wash, rinse, repeat. Standard 'stick n' move'. The rest of us break into three groups. Dusk one with me, the rest of you are Dusk two." The mercenary soldier started to draw his plan out in the ground between them, stopping momentarily to duck when an explosion rocked the forest near them.

"Dusk two is to head too Mark two two five niner and make way south. We will link up at Mark three one three of the Imperial LZ and make ready to do some damage. Each group is to take -one- loaded plex with them and save it until -I- say. Got it?" A chorus of bobbing heads gave the Mando'ad the answer he needed.

"Let's move! Spread out and keep your shabla heads down."

Savin simply watched as his team moved as one unit. A single entity that had one mind, one soul, one goal. It was a beautiful thing to him. And moving in that -he- taught them that. It seems Savin may have missed yet another calling in the respect.

Several plex missiles came screaming out of the inferno that was once a forest. Return fire from the Imperials cut Savin's forces nearly in half in the first few seconds after launching and three of the missiles never made it out of the barrage of blaster fire, detonating in midair. But, four of the projectiles hit their marks. An ammo dump..a weapon cache..and a large assemblage of communications equipment where all met with one or more of the four missiles, erupting into a conflagrative cascade the engulfs the personnel unfortunate enough to be caught in the blasts.

All the while, 10 individuals out of the original 24 made their way though the forest, ironically, using the inferno meant to flush them out to cover their movements. Soon the Empire would realize that no one was firing back and investigate. They might even find a few bodies. The ones that where not completely incinerated, of course. But, by then, 10 guerillas...well, 11 if you count the Mando...wouold be in position to show the Empire what happens when the Underworld strikes back....

The ships began to gather with each waypoint the Mandalorian stopped at. It was a lengthy process but necessary to the cause. Nine ships of various sizes ranging from 145 metres to almost a mile long joined together to face the mighty Imperial navy. As the small fleet jumped from planet to planet, pledges of support came in as the nine nearlx new ships were joined by older battle scarred hulks. These additions were barely fit for combat but still they came. Eventually they reached their last stop before preparing the three hour jump to Myrkr. A transmission had come through from a crew member of the infamous smuggler Damane Landis. Kane answered the transmission personally. " Tell your commander Landis I'm on my way, I had to stop of for fuel and toilet break on the way. Oh and tell him I've picked up a few hitchiker along the way so he'll need more beer for the after party, over" Any Imperials listening in would think the Mando had lost his mind, but a mentally unstable opponent was a dangerous animal.

The Professor scratched at the side of his face, frowning at the mention of the gravfield traps; it reminded him of the successive failures the Citadel's engineering team was encountering in yet another of Mengol's marvelous conceptions - The GWG-Mk. I, or rather, the Gravity Well Generator Mark I. While a prototype was obviously somewhat complicated to create, the device's purpose was simple; GWG-Mk. I was intended to create a small, yet quite powerful gravity field around itself, and when placed in key locations during a battle, could be used to slow or even completely halt the advancement of enemy strike craft. Anger welled up within the small, wiry, hunchbacked scientist as he locked his brooding eyes upon the azure swirl of hyperspace which encompassed the forward transparisteel viewport. If the fools had completed the device by the deadline he had set for them, he would have been able to test the full capabilities of the would-be GWG Mk. I in the battle which had been yet to come. He closed his eyes and took in a deep, calming breath; surely, the GWG Mk. I would be fully functional by the time of the Empire's next invasion - There was no need for him to ruin his bright mood merely because of a minor setback. He instead turned his attention back to the Chiss naval commander, once again speaking in her native language.

"Ah yes, the Crimson Guard... I have as of yet been too occupied to study the changes the Empire has undergone during my time away. I will be most interested to observe their performance in the battle ahead as a fighting unit, as opposed to their previous station of ceremonial guardsmen. Surely their training is put to much better use here on the battlefield..." He paused and looked to the Chiss with an amiable smile, "The Crystal Gravfield Traps are operating at peak efficiency, Grand Admiral. Calm yourself of any worries. I only caution you to beware of your pride... I've noticed it during my psychological examinations of you - Remember that the majority of the Rebellion which set the Empire into a stage of instability consisted mostly of criminals... Do not underestimate them... Though I do not believe that will be a problem, as I have also noticed that you are an excellent naval tactician. Even Thrawn himself would be forced to offer you at least some acknowledgment."

The Professor cackled with glee; he was most certainly a great contrast to the otherwise professional military environment. It was fortunate that Imperial naval protocol enforced such strict discipline; in a lesser institution, more than one of the officers stationed at the bridge would have been displaced from their work by the Professor's presence, or at the very least, set at unease. All continued their work with diligence however, each of the men fully capable of ignoring Mengol's antics and instead focusing on his positive value to the Empire - and to the mission. Rumor was abound throughout the assaulting force that Mengol had brought a gift to aid the invasion, though it remained but a rumor yet.

The Professor most certainly was an enigmatic character.

She nodded. "I would not worry about my pride as much as my overconfidence. Thrawn's overconfidence was his weakness - and I'm more arrogant than he ever was." The ship blurred, and entered realspace again. They were three lightdays from the system itself, which meant that nobody could see them in sensors - even the Imperial sensors stretched just under a lighthour. But here they would get preliminary reports from the Crimson Guards' initial scanning. When the group had arrived in the system, they had taken a scan of the entire system's defences and sent them back.

Obviously they would have changed, but it was worth checking to make sure that there weren't sensors where Hathoruodo had thought that there were. She glanced through the reports with Professor Mengol presumably doing the same, and spotted only one concern. "Professor, what do you know about Yuuzhan Vong?" she said.
