Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)"Glad you like it...I hate it. Feels like my scalp is crawling...I've never dyed my hair before." Devorah muttered with a pout. Her initial idea had been to shift into another, less-recognizable form. But, with her troubles holding her shape since Dagobah, it hadn't been deemed feasible.
So her hair had been heavily dyed a shimmering white. With a sigh, she followed Nathaniel's lead and played the quiet, shy technician as they mingled with the other workers in the hanger bay. The roster on the wall detailed a list of work to be done, and they chose a two-person repair on a small shuttle off towards the back.
Devorah grabbed a box of tools from the storage unit and nodded as Nathaniel did the same. "Doesn't feel that much different than the every day, huh?" she said quietly, as they threaded their way through the hanger to their task.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)"Excepting the crazy clothing," Nate replied with a grin.
They proceeded with their repairs, unnoticed and unbothered by the other maintenance workers. Nathaniel kept an eye out on activity in the hangar and and the corridors beyond. Once events were really put into motion, it would happen quickly and he didn't want to be caught off-guard in the slightest.
Still, he paused and looked over at Dev. "Listen. I'm sorry I've been such a frakkin' Chiss lately."
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Iria was about to reply to Kane's comment both the greeting and the suggestion about the wine when another voice added in..
“Hello, I’m Jon Burke. Are you with Kane?”
She blinked and turned gaving an impish grin. "I know Kane if that is what you mean Mr Burke." her jade green and cerulean blue eyes twinkled with mischief.
"Su'cuy ori'vod." she couldn't resist planting a feather light kiss on his cheek. Even if he hadn't shaved. She listened to the rest of the conversation and waited to hear what she needed to do.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Jon smiled at the new addition and said teasingly, “Well, even if Kane is the best reference you can provide, we’re glad to have you join us. Since the slicers have decided to work from a remote location, Kane and I can use your help on the boarding party.”
Turning to Alema he said, “It’s time ladies. Assuming the connections here in the apartment won’t work for you, you should go find your access point. Alema, do you have a comm. frequency for us?”
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Alema saw Iria plant a kiss on Kane's cheek out of the corner of her eye, and noted it with amusement. She'd met Iria once before, and been quite impressed by the young lady. She'd shown remarkable courtesy and kindness even under strain, and it spoke well for her professionalism. Good woman to have around.
"The connections here probably won't be enough, since I don't know what sort of monitoring they've got in this place and don't want to waste time checking for sure. I may actually leech from some private citizen's connection, since if the authorities catch on to us, they'll start checking public terminals first."
The apartment where they were now would have been equally good, or even Calina's ship, but someplace more remote would do them a world of good. After all, if the slicers stopped being merely a presence on the 'net and a voice on the comm, Calina would be their only defense. It wasn't that Alema was afraid of what Calina might do, but it would have been imprudent and irresponsible to leave what amounted to a one-time romantic rival solely in charge of her safety. If anything went wrong Alema would have had no one to blame but herself.
"Listen for my updates on 12-D. I'll be transmitting microbursts only, and I'd prefer if that's all anyone else sent, too. The fastest way to get my team killed is to reveal where we are, but as long as I'm just a voice on the comm, we'll be fine. I'll give you updates as we go so that you know what our progress is. I won't be directing them at anyone in particular, so you'll need to cut in if there's something I should know."
She took a deep breath. She enjoyed communications relaying, since it was a way to contribute that didn't require her to make a lot of the plans. However, if she was also sending updates, she'd need to rely on Kari and Tessa that much more. Kari could probably be trusted with very specific tasks, and Tessa only needed to be reminded of some basic aspects of her training. She really only needed Alema to advise, the twi'lek realized. Something of a relief.
Good not to be the only slicer, she noted. It meant that she had a team to work with, but it also meant that she played a somewhat less crucial role now.
No matter. She was going to have to wean them away from her someday anyway. Perhaps it was just coming a little sooner than she'd thought.
"12-D." The twi'lek stood slowly, not for a moment dropping the calm composure her training lent her. With silent, gliding steps she slipped toward the door and waited for her team to assemble around her. "Stay in touch," she told the others, and then stepped out the door.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)“Thanks, Alema. 12-D it is. Be careful ladies,” Jon said to the slicer team as they departed.
Turning back to Kane and his as yet unnamed friend, he continued, “We need to get changed and make our way to the shuttles. Shift change is in an hour and we don’t want to be rushing aboard at the last minute. Kane if you want to fill her in a little, I need to try to make a quick call.”
Leaving the two, he stepped back out on the balcony. He keyed the private comm. access number Sarah had given him, hoping to have a chance to say goodbye. Unfortunately, he received an unavailable message which told Jon she had probably rejoined her rebel associates wherever they were now.
Sighing, he reentered the apartment, found a construction worker’s uniform in his size and changed. Grabbing three workers’ passes he rejoined his teammates.

Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Arin moved through the various bars, clubs, and dark alleys of Bespin relying on a combination of intuition and luck to guide her path. Peeking about a corner, she found that she was yet to be misled. A door had opened, and a stranger Arin had come to think of as a friend exited a crowded room with a group about her.
Being a senator before she was a bounty hunter, in Arin's experience there were two ways to look guilty. The first was an overwhelming air of nerves, while the other was to be so stoic that it was obvious you were hiding something. Alema fell in that second category; it might fool the local police, but Arin knew her profession - on an outlaw or a senator, that face meant she was up to something.
What Arin didn't know was what, if anything, she was going to do about it. This wasn't just anybody walking down the corridor, this was Cobalt. They had faced the Empire together ... sure they lost, but the outcome was really beside the point. Alema wasn't just a mark or a target; in some obscure way she was a friend.
It was because the Twi'lek was a friend that Arin decided to abandon her first course of action. Instead she moved in behind the exiting group, proceeding with absolute silence and stealth until they were in an otherwise vacant corridor to reveal herself.
"Well well - I must say you look a lot healthier than the last time I saw you."
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Face to face with an old ally, Alema smiled and dipped down into a deep courtsey. "It's lovely to see you," she said. "And yes, I'm feeling much better than I was then."
The twi'lek held a hand up to reassure her allies that Arin wasn't a threat. Under other circumstances Alema would have been appalled not to offer proper introductions all around, but she didn't know why Arin was here, and whether or not she would want her real identity known. Alema decided it would be more discourteous to ignore such a need than to overlook proper social form.
"She and I met just before I came aboard. The very day, actually. Saved my life when I was being too stubborn to do it myself," she finished with a modest smile. "I'm actually on a bit of an errand at the moment, but we really ought to catch up sometime soon. Will you be here long?"
Even as the routine, cordial niceties escaped Alema's lips, she found that she really did mean them. Arin was one of few people she could call a friend who wasn't somehow tied in with all the pain and deception that had begun to slowly strangle the life she was making. "Or will I have to get hold of you another time?"
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Iria wasn't sure if this Burke was teasing her or being serious and that made her not sure how to respond. So she kept quiet, instead and listened. Now she figured it was safe enough to comment. "The name is Iria and I'll be glad to help."
she smiled and held out her hand to Burke. "So count me in for the boarding party."
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Ellie had been startled by the sudden appearance of Alema's friend, and hung back behind Alema while she tried to figure out what was going on.
She was anxious to get started, and happy they'd be working remotely. It made her less nervous - as did the presence of the other two women. This would be one of a small handful of times that other people would be involved in her slicing, and it was scary to think that if she made a mistake, she wouldn't be the only one paying for it. Despite her confidence in her own abilities and in everyone else's, the worry still hung in the back of her mind.
With a glance to Kari, she smiled at her. Kari had seemed unsure of her own helpfulness, but Ellie trusted that the girl would be more help than she though. It was almost always the shy ones who turned out to be great. After a moment of indecison on what to say, she softly said, "I'm glad you're coming with us."

Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)"I'm actually on a bit of an errand at the moment, but we really ought to catch up sometime soon. Will you be here long ... or will I have to get hold of you another time?"
Arin's eyes narrowed slightly at Alema's company. Maybe her friend was giving her a brush-off, maybe she was into something nefarious, or maybe she was being taken hostage. There were too few facts to tell and prying could be dangerous, even if whatever Alema was doing was something she wanted. Arin had no choice: she had to let go, but not without taking a few precautions.
Reaching into a small pouch, Arin pulled out a modified com with a dedicated chip. "It's a universal signaller: patches into whatever network is nearby and routes a call to my base. You can send for me anytime from anywhere and I'll know exactly how to find you. It's also got my com-code embossed on the front if you just want to call." After curling the link securely into Alema's palm and folding her fingers shut over it, Arin offered her friend a sincere hug while whispering softly. "If you need me - for anything at all - I'm just a click away."
With that she backed away from the group, moving quietly into the turns and twists of Bespin's structure. If Alema needed her she'd be able to say so in a heartbeat. Otherwise ... perhaps it was best not to pry only to learn something she'd be happier not knowing.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Alema returned Arin's hug, and nodded to her. It might be valuable to have another ally in the area should things go sour, and Arin's reliability was beyond reproach. Hopefully it wouldn't be necessary, though. She didn't want to get Arin involved in this unless it was inescapable.
"It's fine," she told her friends as Arin was leaving. "She's a friend, and we can depend on her if we need her." She looked down at the comm. Arin hadn't even known what Alema was doing here, and she'd offered her aid anyway. She held the comm tightly for another moment. This was a gesture that meant a great deal to Alema, but she hoped that it wouldn't need to come to anything. "If something happens and I can't call her, one of you should."
"Anyway. We should keep going."
She led them to a light residential area, and sat down on a bench out in a park. "Okay," she said. "I'm getting a decent signal from a satellite put up by..." She gazed down at her datapad with a vaguely puzzled expression. "A... corporation sixty-eight kilometers from here. That should work just fine." She keyed in a few commands and nodded, satisfied. "That should do it. If you ladies could connect here, I'll go ahead and check to see if this is monitored by some outside entity."
This was going to get a little tedious here, and she didn't want to saddle either of her fellow slicers with the sole task of sitting and watching data run by. That kind of maddenly-routine task was something that they wouldn't appreciate, so it'd be best if they could split the work.
"Okay. It is being monitored, but right now we're monitoring it, too. Kari and Ellie, if you ladies could get in here as well to keep track of what sort of data is normally sent, you'll have better luck sending this external monitor believable false information later on. If you'll do that and start figuring out what we'll need to be telling them, I'll start sending updates to our friends."
Her next message was a microburst over 12-D. "Cobalt here. That's a yes on external monitoring. We're keeping an eye on it, and we'll be able to talk to the monitor soon. Over."
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Kane had briefed Iria on the complete mission while Jon stepped out to do something that appeared to be important. After the briefing Kane changed from his suit to the workers uniform, the fit was perfect with just enough room for a weapon. Kane smiled when Jon came back in " I just need to fetch something from my room, it's a personal insurance policy"
Looking to Iria, Kane enquired about her preparation. " Do you have a weapon Vodika?"
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Jon shook Iria’s hand and said, “I’m very pleased to meet you Iria. And very happy you can join us. You need to change into one of these workers’ uniforms. There are several in the bedroom to choose from. We will be using the shift change shuttle to get to the ship yard. You stick with Kane and help him. I’ll be releasing to tractors holding the ship in place and, if you two can hold her steady long enough, joining you on board for the departure.”
Including Kane in the conversation he added, “Ok, let’s do this.”
"Cobalt here. That's a yes on external monitoring. We're keeping an eye on it, and we'll be able to talk to the monitor soon. Over."
The slicers were getting in place. It was time to get this show on the road.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Iria listened to Jon's explanation of what was needed and nodded softly. She smiled at Kane's question to her. "Got a small weapon at the moment. This suit doesn't have many hidding places." she gave a wry grin. "Once I get changed if you have any spares I'll see about secreting a few surprises as needed."
She nodded to both men and took a moment to go through the door to change. She found a workers uniform that had some extra pockets for tools. Which could be any type of tool.
Iria finished changing and walked back out of the room to see Kane and Jon.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Jon smiled at Iria and Kane and said, “It’s show time!”
He handed each of them one of the employee identification cards. They would have to run them across a scanner when they arrived at the Ship Yard. The cards weren’t as innocuous as they seemed. They actually connected the holder’s nervous system to the security system taking the neural equivalent of a fingerprint. Fortunately, they weren’t meant to keep people out. They were designed to provide a conclusive identification at a later time, should the need arise. It would simply be another nail in their coffins if they were caught.
“There’s no reason you two can’t stay together. Go to the Frost Industries sector of the Port City sky docks. We will be taking shuttle 6. Just follow the others onto the freighter when we get to the ship yard, then find place to disappear until Alema tells use we are ready to move. I’ll be making my way to the tractor beam control room to cut us loose.”
Giving them one last encouraging smile and a wink at Iria, he said, “Let’s do it! There’s a Burlesque Hall I’m looking forward to seeing competed.”
Leaving the apartment for the last time, Jon separated from the other two and made his way to the shuttle. Nodding amicably at some of the employees that were boarding, he took a seat by a window and bowed his head; seemingly bored and wanting nothing more than a quick nap while commuting to work.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)“Let’s do it! There’s a Burlesque Hall I’m looking forward to seeing competed.”
Kane laughed at Jon's enthusiasm for the Burlesque hall, " I'm as ready as ever, let's go get this baby airborne and get you your hall, hell I'll even buy soem materials for you to fit it out"
Kane turned to Iria, " Let's go have us some fun!"
He then made his way out of the apartment and toward the awaiting transport, ID was in place and Jon's instructions played over and over again in his head.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Jon continued his pose as a sleeper; although, he was awake and alert. He heard Kane’s distinctive voice talking quietly to Iria about inconsequential things as they boarded. Jon suppressed an urge to grin. Who would have thought those Mando’ade would take so to theatrics.
Shortly, the access hatch closed and the shuttle separated from Port City, beginning its short journey to the ship yard.
Jon stretched and looked around. The night shift was smaller than he had expected. Small enough for an addition of three to be a significant deviation if anyone was watching that kind of thing in real time. At this point all he could do was hope that was not the case. Alema’s team may be able to influence that, but, this was not a place he could contact them and request them intervene.
The docking port was approaching and the shuttle slowing for contact. Arrival was simply the reverse of their departure with the vessel locking into the port and the hatch cycling open.
The employees began filing out, Jon waiting as long as he could to try to be near the end of the group. He would need to slip away from them to make his way to the control center.
Exiting the receiving foyer required passing though the banks of card scanners. Jon watched the real employees as they passed through, trying to emulate their actions. Apparently you help the card at a certain point and inserted the end into the reader, removing it when the light flashed to green. Jon hoped Kane and Iria were watching as they were in a different line and he couldn’t help them.
He sighed with relief when the light changed and stepped through into the waiting room. He was approaching the men’s freshener, where he planned to separate from the group. He went inside, claimed the last stall, and waited.
“Exile to the away team. I’m in a holding pattern, let me know when I’m clear for takeoff.”
He hoped Kane knew that meant he was waiting for them to find a secure place near the bridge to hide until it was time to proceed.
Jon smirked, at least he had a relatively comfortable seat for his wait.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Ellie took a seat on a bench across from Alema, taking a cautious visual sweep of the area. She wasn't sure quite what she was looking for, other than some sort of confirmation that they were in a fairly safe location.
Nodding at Alema's request for help monitoring data, Ellie tapped at her own small handheld device until she was happy with the connection she made. Watching the data scroll across her screen, though fairly boring, was going to provide them with plenty of important information, so she tried to remain fully focused on the task at hand. Besides, it was, to some degree, what she'd done years doing for her parents - watching data go in and out, looking for anything unusual, and generally keeping an eye on things.
"Okay. I'm in. Let's see what we've got here," Ellie said softly, partially to give Alema a heads up, but mostly, narrating to herself.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)"Okay, thank you Tessa. Let me know as soon as you feel like you've got a good idea of what normal data looks like for them."
She turned to the data herself to watch the code going by. No need to change anything yet, but there were a couple of things she wanted to look up. From what she could see, it seemed that most of the system had been updated from the old Trade Federation software, but... not all of it.
Climate control was on the old system. It made some sense. After all, how advanced did the technology need to be to ensure that rooms were an appropriate temperature and humidity? It wasn't much, but it was a freebie, and Alema intended to make use of it.
She tapped the cone over her left ear and spoke into the comm once more. "Cobalt again. Climate control will be easy, but it may get uncomfortable in there after a while. Call me if anyone passes out. Over."
With a nod to Kari and Tessa, Alema explained her idea. "This should make it easy to shut down the construction droids in the area where our guys'll be working. If I jack up the humidity and send the climate out of control, the droids may need to be shut down to prevent damage from operating under those conditions."
She put her thumbnail against her teeth and tried to think of other ways to make use of the information. "Once the climate controls are taken, we can just send through an alert to the third-party monitor that something was wrong with the atmosphere. That would automatically put up a genuine biohazard alarm, saving us the trouble of taking over that system in order to get rid of the normal staff and crew."

Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
(OOC: Sorry I've been away from this for a while, been debating staying at TGC...but I'm back, and thanks for the GMing.)
Climate control. That was easy enough. The girl could play with it as well as anyone, especially the Trade Federation mods. It took an ape with half a brain to do something like that. She quietly cleared her throat, rubbing her collar a little, apprehensive about asking if she could do it.
"Mistress, I think I can do that, if you'll let me." The girl's eyes glanced demurely at the Twi'lek, offering a quiet little smile. "It doesn't look any different from anything I've seen." The girl glanced at the module, her eyes almost graying as the girl entered an almost-trance, trying to recall exactly how it worked. "Basic generic overrides, nothing encrypted or anything, right Mistress?" Again the little smile, looking for backup. She wanted to be of some help, but she was still concerned with screwing it up and ruining the plan for everyone.
She listened quietly as Alema talked back to the rest of the crew, she didn't want to be pretentious, and interrupting was out of the question. She simply clasped her hands in front of her and waited for an answer.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Iria followed Kane and Jon through the line and once passed the log in with their cards she was glad to be moving. As she passed other workers finishing for the day; she noticed those that looked more tired than the rest and wondered briefly if they should have been even working in the first place.
It wasn't her business how they staffed the place but if they had more alert workers things would have been harder on Iria, Kane and Jon. So she thanked her stars silently and moved toward what looked like a good area to 'work'.
Hearing Jon's voice over their comms channel. She bit back a grin. "We'll meet for caf later." she said gently in reply basically telling him she got the message and that now was not the time yet.
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)"I'd love to have your help. Thank you, Kari," Alema replied. She didn't expect Kari to take much personal initiative beyond seeking out ways to serve others, but it was a start.
If nothing else she could count on Kari to operate conservatively, handling what she could and checking before taking serious risks. It made her reliable, and reliability was something Alema prized highly. "Probably best to hold off on altering anything significant until we've got control of the information their monitor's receiving, but once we've got that done we should be free to make that last adjustment."
What was Tessa doing... ah. Still getting a handle on the kind of information their monitor would consider normal. "Tessa, would you set up regular reports that we can send to the security monitor? Let me know when you've got it. That'll free us up to see about deactivating or commandeering the security that activates the droidekas."
Re: A New Haven (TGU/CFR/Invite)
Being a bounty hunter of meticulous detail Kane took in everything the workers ahead were doing. Once through the barriers he and Iria made their way toward their workstation. When all was clear Kane slipped through from the main area of construction to a completed section, he beckoned Iria to follow and looked for a hiding place the two could share without crowding each others personal space. Once in placf Kane commed Jon to give a status report. " message understood Jon, sorry for the slow reply, we are in place awaiting your signal, over"
