Isaac grinned. One of many things he found he could respect in travelling companions was an ability to make him laugh. He didn't make it hard, as nearly all things were cause for potential interest and amusement.

However, Alessandra was a prodigious talent in that area.

"Well, madam," he began with one the hat held out to facilitate her berry-diving. "It is my impression that she did not meet him until after his involvement in the action over that rather unwholesome necromancer. I can tell you right now that she still refuses to believe she's reached that age, but you know how young girls are." He winked at his colorful and acrobatic companion, and it occurred to him that he couldn't precisely tell how old she was. What he could tell was that she was remarkably youthful and attractive, and certainly a like-minded individual. Ordinarily this would provoke the incorrigible flirt in him.

It wasn't even the number of arms that was putting him off. Being a rather open-minded and adventurous sort, Isaac was even inclined to view such a thing as an advantageous trait. However, she just plain reminded him too much of his kid. That was weird, and it was highly unlikely that it would ever be less weird.

"And from what I understand she does a good bit of travelling away from her gentleman friend while she's out with that drow guardian of hers. She and I both do, really. I have no doubt that eventually either she or Ardam will figure themselves out, but so far she's refused to address the issue, and the young man is no less oblivious." He sighed. "Enough to make a father despair of ever having grandchildren."

He grinned. "But enough of my paternal concerns. What brings you to this part of the world at such a perfect time in order to provide me with such perfect company?"

Alessandra, continuing to pluck berries into her painted mouth by flipping them from her hands, smiled. "No, grandchildren does not seem to be coming by any time soon then." She gave a sagely nod. "After all -- physical distance do tend to prevent grandshildren far better than any herbs or magical roots ... " Then she flashed a bright smile at him, returning his wink with an exaggerated batting of lashes. Putting two hands under her face she made herself look like a big-eyed deer. "Not that this little lady would know anything about that of course! Innocent as a baby I am. Yesiree, a regular saint, this little jester-girl is ..."

She kept her innocent mask as Isaak let his eloquent tongue flow again. It seemed like she was enjoying all those words he used; she looked completely absorbed from time to time.

"... and a flatterer you are too, master elf." she commented when he paused to breathe. " 'Perfect company', huh? If I didn't know any better I'd think you tried to make this innocent flower blush." She batted her lashes at him for a while longer before letting go of her innocent look, her face splitting into her normal mischevous grin. She looked decisively pleased though.

"I just arrived here myself." she revealed. "I used to live in the human realms you see, far to the west of here. Nice place that, with lots of nice people. A clear lack of talking squirrels, shadows and shapeshifting kittens though." She snapped her fingers. "Four-armed jesters are in a minority too. Anyway ... I came here looking for an old friend, but I've already found so many interesting people that I got sidetracked." She pondered. "Coming to think of it, I tend to get side-tracked a lot ..."

In the human realms! So there are humans here? How interesting. Ordinarily humans breed with such speed that they are nigh-unavoidable wherever one goes. Yet here I have not seen one, and rather have made some distinctly non-human, though certainly humanoid acquaintances.

It was true that Isaac was curious about the geography and population of this place, as such information would likely prove highly useful. However, it was also true that Isaac was quite distractible himself, and if he took the conversation down that route now, he might perhaps forget his curiosity about his new friend Alessandra. To that end, it seemed best to the elf that he reserve his questions for later, and press on definitively in their new topic.

"Well, I do believe I must count myself at least partly to blame for your distraction, taking up so much of your time as I have. However, I remain utterly unrepentant, as I have had entirely too wonderful a time with you and our friend Samuel thus far. Perhaps, in the interests of getting you back on track for your search, you might enlighten me with some more specific details as to the nature or appearance of this particular friend so that, should I encounter such a one, I could send him or her in your general direction."

Perhaps it would have been easier for Isaac to simply follow Alessandra's statement with a simple, 'Oh, you're looking for a friend. Anyone I know?' But simplicity or brevity of any sort was quite frankly beyond his power, however numerous he might believe his talents to be.

The Jester made a teasing show of being about to be blown of her rock by the elf's flow of words. "Unrepentant are we?" she laughed. "My gods, master Luke, you are indeed an elf of grand words! My head spins on its proverbial socket under this eloquent flow of near-naught-surperfluous utterings of verbal grandeur!"

Without waiting for a retort, the jester chuckled and stood up on her rock.
"My friend is about this tall" she said matter-of-factly and measured with her hand a fair bit above Isaak's head. "Blackie -- that's his name -- is really good to climb on! And he's a real nice guy to boot. I haven't seen him in a long time though, so maybe he's fat and lazy these days. And we can't have that! So I thought I'd check in on him. Yep, can't wait to see his expression!"

She eyed the elf with a calculating glance. "Hmm. Coming to think of it, maybe you're good to climb on too, master Luke. Yes, one of those moments I might have to try you out ... hmmm. " Alessandra abruptly looked into the air and put her hands behind her back, tiptoing innocently back and forth on the rock with small agile hops. "... But forget I said that, for now ... So ... what brings you to the forest, Master Luke?"

......... Humanoid acquaintances...

... yes, but two distinctly non-humanoid, non-terrestrial creatures, made their way through the Forest. Intent on the world around them, rather than on each other... strange for these two, but then, physical intimacy was only one of their interests. At times, just enjoying the day, all the Living Things present in all Inhabited Worlds providing another interest, bent on satisfying a natural, intent curiousity...

... well, yes... Thoee and Deen rambled. Ran claws through the earth, sniffed at flowers, ate fruit and leaned against the trees... breathed the late-summer afternoon's air with the same gusto they used to drink cool, clear water, when very thirsty. Having arrived in deep forest in the way they had... stripped of all evidence of civilization, as surely as they'd been stripped of all clothing (and choosing to stay that way)... the two Nism, a male and female, mates for better than ten years now... spent many days just enjoying Life, without any other goals in mind than purely absorbing the atmosphere of Nature, scattered about the woods.

Days like this, together... relaxed, lazy, no hormonal push for sex (yes, even that could be too frequent, under the circumstances)... made their time in Deep Forest that much more special. So much to see, so much to smell, so much to hear and taste and... touch, with both fingers and biosense. Which lead to them an awareness of three nearby lifeforms, in close proximity. Sentient lifeforms, given the patterns returned. And this was The Edge Thoee and Deen had meandered to in their wandering, aimless day. Reason enough to investigate....

The two Nism came upon the trio... a black-furred mouse with a jewel on his chest, a four-handed girl with a strange-large hat, and a slightly over-tall elf with a purple-prosed tongue...

... Deen stood up from his four-legged approach, to his full five point eight foot height, not at all self-conscious or concerned about his lack of pants. He gave the four-handed girl a look of doubt... and the elf-man a very intent head to toe exam with his bright green eyes, before snorting, snuffling, and rubbing at his muzzle with both clawed hands, as he looked back at the Jester...

... "You do realize, Young Lady... I would hope... how such a phrase could be mis-interpreted...?" The elf-man... Master Luke?... hadn't yet had a chance to answer her question, due to Deen's interruption. Thoee, still on all fours... stretching and yawning very gracefully beside her mate... whipped her tail in an equally graceful arc, thwapping Deen upside the head with her tail's tuft...

... "Behave, My Love...."

It was true that such a statement could be easily misconstrued, and was in fact about to be... and rather badly.

Unfortunately, Isaac had no time to address the true intentions of his lovely female companion. As much as he was beginning to wonder how much truth was hiding behind her innuendo, there was now something rather more pressing to consider.

That would be, of course, the matter of these strange creatures who had presented themselves before him. Plainly they had been eavesdropping on his conversation with his new acquaintances which while slightly irritating, was an indication that had these two wanted to cause serious harm to his little group... they'd have had a chance earlier.

So, in light of this, Isaac moved on to consider the initial statements of the two. That affectionate tail-whip was not lost on him, and was only one of several obvious indications that the two were some sort of bonded pair. More than that, their statements indicated one...crucial... thing.

They were initiating conversation.

Interesting! So many unique creatures. Let's see if their temperaments and stories are equally intriguing.

Despite his keen interest in these new and potentially-interesting strangers, Isaac was not quite so much the fool as he appeared to be. Lurking in the back of his mind was the suspicion that these two may simply be offering a facsimile of friendliness, a veneer of mutual venery intended to make them seem more harmless than they are.

Isaac's effort to reconcile these two urges was simple and interfered little with his desire to learn more about them. He remained seated on the grass next to the Jester's rock, and but for his hand lying on the hilt of his rapier he was the very picture of casual idleness.

"Good afternoon! I do believe that you've been present for quite some time with ne'er a proper introduction between us! I may be called Lucignolo, this is the Lady Alessandra, and our smaller but grandly-talented and gracious, genteel fellow seated with her is Samuel. Might I be so forward as to request the ready reciprocation of my forthcoming formalities?"

Alesandra made a yelp of surprise at the sudden voice, taking a few startled steps backwards on the top of her rock. Exhaling abruptly, she put two hands over her heart: "Phew! A heart attack coming my way! Don't scare me like that!"

She was as fascinated by these two as was Isaac. There were so many strange creatures in this forest! The elf replied to them and the Jester bowed when her name was mentioned.

"Alessandra is indeed my name!" she said happily. "Luke should know, since he came up with it!" She made a spin on the spot. "But I don't speak so fancy words as master Luke. When I see someone that seem climbable, I tell them. I would think that's all clear?"

As Lucignolo's words echoed in the following brief silence... just as Samuel, the dark-furred and bejeweled mouse, looked ready to open his mouth... Deen's sudden facial expression, a raising of eyebrows and lick of raccoonish teeth, turned into words...

... "Wow... that was..."

Thoee gave him a look...

"... that was... impressive." He'd intended to say "complicated", but his mate's look, as she stood up from her stretch and yawn, had changed his mind...

... "If we didn't share a fluent knowledge of the same language, I'd be very conf......... *!!!*"

He'd meant to say... "very confused right about now"...

... but Thoee had clamped his muzzle shut, pulled his face around, and licked his forehead scale... and the space on top of his head, right between his large, alert ears... reached as he relaxed into a half-crouch. The end of Deen's tongue did stick out a bit from between his teeth, however, so he looked a bit uncomfortable in his inability to talk, though the lick had brough out a strangely felineish purr. All four of his nostrils flared, eyes half-closed in pleasure (with maybe a little drool leaking between Thoee's scaled fingers)...

... but Thoee kept her hand in place, and with a smile, bowed... with an upward flip of her tail... to each in turn. To Samuel, to Lucignolo, to the Lady Alessandra...

... "My... our appologies, for almost causing your death, dear child!" Thoee gave Luke a suggestive smile, made more so by the slow, wet lick she gave her snout... then, she turned back to Alessandra, not failing to give Samuel a friendly wink in passing...

... "He does indeed look... climbable, for his species. A handsome male, spotted for the first time, can make that desire... very clear...."

Her gaze drifted over all three, along with the light scent of citrus and nutmeg, as her tail tuft swished through the air, in a wave over her mate...

... "I am Thoee, and this handsome male... is Deen."

Thoee snuggled against her mate... released his muzzle, and started licking him behind his ears. A hand... the same clawed hand that had kept him silent... slipped under his feathered shroudruff, to rub his shoulders in appology. Deen sighed, closed his eyes, leaned his head into the licking, mumbled...

... "Ahhh, Sweetness... I'll alway be... your One and Only mountain........."

Good thing these two had passed into a less... horny state... otherwise, things could have gotten much more complicated than words....
