The Vondiranach Twins.
Arty's punch felled the cowering man as he whimpered. He wiped his bloodied nose as he trembled with fear. The wounded man had conned Arthur Vondiranach and his twin-brother/fellow mercenary, Arnold Vondiranach - he had hired the mercenaries and hadn't paid up. Big mistake.
"Pay up, now, Jinn!"
"I've told you guys," The man stopped to wipe away some fresh blood, "go to the Rosey Red Cantina, ask for the Galactic Underworld - they're the ones who pay my mercs..."
The conman's head was jerked back, immediatly, as the smaller merc's boot hit his face - Jinn was knocked out. Arthur spat at Jinn, quickly, before turning to his brother.
"What d'you reckon? I say we go, leave this scumbag here and wait for some alley-dweller to get him..."Edited by: Arthur Vondiranach at: 7/6/07 7:58 pm

The Vondiranach Twins.
"You know I'm not so cold hearted. The least that we could do is throw him in a dumpster somewhere."
He bent down and threw the man over his massive shoulders. Looking this way and that, he spotted a dumpster. Making his way to it, he lifted its lid and threw the man in. "He should be safe in there until he wakes up."
Walking back to his brother, he patted him on the shoulder. "Let's get going. We need our money, especially since we've been down on jobs lately"
Suddenly a Rodian approached them. "Excuse me sir. But I couldn't help overhear. And I put two and two together. When you find someone from the underworld.... try and get acquainted. They are the luckiest of the luckiest. They can help you find jobs. Work with them." A sound was heard further down the alley, and the Rodian skipped away.
"Well, seems we might have found an end to our troubles, common."
Making his way out of the alley, he stretched his muscles and blinked in the tattoine sun. Making his way down the way, he found the cantina they were looking for. Walking inside, he saw a motley crew. However some seemed like they were important. Approaching one, he said, "Do you know anything of the galactic underworld?"

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Alema certainly was a conspicuous figure in the cantina, her vivid cerulean skin a glaring contrast to the dull and dusty furnishings Tatooine generally sported. In dark slacks and a masculine shirt, she hardly looked the part of the easy Twi'lek for hire, and that's how she liked it. Taking a booth to herself, she'd stretched her legs under the table to rest on the opposite seat. Since joining the Revenge, Alema had grown much more comfortable in such surroundings and it showed. She tilted back her glass of blue milk and when she laid down the empty glass there were two rather large gentlemen standing near her booth.
"Do you know anything of the galactic underworld?"
Running her fingers along the rim of the glass she looked up... and up... into the face of the man addressing her. She raised two tattooed eyebrows in mild surprise and casually pulled one headtail over her shoulder as she leaned forward. "Everyone knows something about it. Everyone here at least."
Despite her off-hand and almost flippant response, a few things had caught Alema's attention if not caused her concern yet. The first was that either of these two men alone could potentially be a threat to her, let alone both. The second was that she wasn't used to being approached for information by people she didn't know. This combination made her a bit wary, even as she considered what potential use she could get out of these two.
"So? You looking for something specific?" she asked.

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
The lowlife-filled cantina looked wretched, filthy and looked as if the owner was derelict - Arthur loved it. The twins quickly passed through the smoke-filled seating area, heading towards an average/common-looking Twi'lek. Her blue skin reminded Arty of his old merc armour he used to sport, that was when the twins where newbies and armour was the 'in' thing. Nowadays, Arty preferred his all-black outfit - well, not all black, seeing as he always had his red headband on - the thing hadn't been washed for a while!
"Do you know anything of the galactic underworld?"
It was Arnold who spoke for the twins - Arthur wasn't so much of a talker, he always got confused or messed up on word when he tried to sound intimidating. Yes, Arthur was more of the silent type, until it came to the action, that is.
"Everyone knows something about it. Everyone here at least."
The woman seemed worried, although Arthur couldn't blame her - his brother, Arnold, looked about two times the size of the Twi'lek and Arty's silent impatience didn't help.
"So? You looking for something specific?"
Was this Twi'lek playing games with them? Arthur was getting annoyed - he wanted his money and he wanted it now.
"Look, love, Jinn told us to come and ask for this Galactic Underwear, or whatever they're called, so we can get our pay. We had a good, fair deal, did us and Jinn, and we just want our money... Now, you know anything about mercenary payments?"
Arthur had stepped in front of his larger brother and had slammed both hands down onto the table, setting his eyes at the same level as the Twi'leks. The mercenary probably made himself look a fool by doing this, but he wanted to seem dangerous and had seen certain gangsters do this on holomovies.

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Alema crossed her arms, her fingers flicking under the cuff of her bracelet and touching a small sensor there. These two could become a problem if that were the case, she'd need to be ready to use any advantage she had. This man's reaction was incredibly rude. He hadn't introduced himself, he had no idea who she was and had instead chosen to call her 'love,' and now he was apparently trying to bully money out of her.
There was a brief moment where Alema had to decide just how interested she was in lashing out at this oaf. On the one hand, it would have been easy to get him to sit down, have a drink on her tab, and tell the nice lady about their problems. Would have been easy to leave one of them outside the tavern curled in a rigid, twitching ball of misguided testosterone.
But just one, she thought. Certainly not two, especially considering that I'd still have the larger one to deal with and that just isn't happening. A fight with both or even a straight confrontation with one would undoubtedly go against her. Safer to drive them off directly.
Alema's annoyance at his boldness covered the brief flicker of concern in her expression, and after that training took over. "Well," she answered smoothly. "I don't know your friend Jinn, and it seems you didn't either. As far as your money is concerned," she shrugged one shoulder. "I take care of my own people. You're not one of them and unless you can dig some manners out from under the sweat and muscles you never will be."
She sat back, leaving the arm with her bracelet on the table. It was an invitation for him to grab it, but she wasn't sure he would and hoped he didn't. It would be regrettable if he chose to, for both of them. "So, until I hear some 'Please ma'am,' and 'thank you,' you can look elsewhere for favors."

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Arnie uncrossed his arms and moved across to the table. Brining up his hand, he laid it on Arty's chest and pushed him backwards, and onto the floor. Looking back at him, he frowned. "Don't do that again, brother. You know that I'll just have to hurt you."
Turning back to the twi'lek, he said, "Excuse my brother. He's not usually doing the talking. Now, I don't believe that you gave us your name, nor did we give you ours. I am Arnold, but I go by Arnie. My brother there is Arthur, but he goes by Arty. Now, it appears that you know a bit more about the underworld than you orriginally let on. May I sit down and talk to you about it?"

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Alema was unable to watch Arnie shove his brother onto the floor without widening her eyes in surprise. It had been a long time since she'd been with her siblings, and the kind of family cameraderie that allowed people to shove and scold each other without repercussion was a little foreign to the Twi'lek.
Then again, it was also possible that Arty was just here to make his brother look better, and Alema didn't have enough information yet to figure out if these two were smart enough for the 'good cop, bad cop' routine.
"Evening, Arnie. Arty. Most people just call me Alema." She jerked her head toward the seat across from her in the booth. "I don't mind if you want to sit and have a civil conversation, no. Now what was this about you not getting your pay?"

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Arnie's bionic arms easily pulled Arty back - Arthur just didn't expect to fall down. After picking himself up, off the floor, Arty wiped the dust from his back pants and gave each of the laughing spectators an evil glare, yet his humiliation showed, as rosy circles on his face, and his 'pissed off' look made him seem even more embarrassed. After making sure each of the customers was now uncomphy, because of his hateful scowl, he switched his concentration back on his brother and the Twi'lek.
"Evening, Arnie. Arty. Most people just call me Alema. I don't mind if you want to sit and have a civil conversation, no. Now what was this about you not getting your pay?"
Arthur did as the woman said and took a seat, in her booth, opposite from the Twi'lek.
"We did a job for this bloke - weedy kind of fellar - and it wasn't no small job... It was big -" Arthur leaned in closer, towards Alema, so that no unwanted listeners could hear, "- put it this way, the guy we had to deal with isn't 'with us' anymore. Jinn, the guy who hired us, said he would pay us 20,000 credits each, for the job... Anyway, this job's been finished for over a year now and we ain't seen any of the money. And a few times, Jinn's gone into hiding to get away from us..."

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Alema winced visibly at the dollar amount. That was a lot of cash to be swindled out of, and however bad Arty's manners were, she couldn't help but feel his pain on that count.
"That," she began, "Is a pretty amazing collection of things that suck." She inhaled sharply and continued. "But here's my question. You said he told you to come get your pay from some random person connected to a loose network of self-serving criminals, and the guy himself has been trying his damnedest to skip out on you. You believed him why?"
She shook her head. "I think you got screwed, and I think the next time you see that guy you should beat some honesty into him for the benefit of any future employees he'll have. It would be a valuable public service around these parts."

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Arnie slid into the booth beside his brother. It seemed that they had been duped again. But this time, the duping may have been worth their time. Not only had they met a female. Not only had they met an -exotic- female. But they might have found their way into the loose affiliation of criminals that they had wanted to join since it had banded together.
"Yes, I plan to go back and visit that little rodian. However, I'd like to ask you. For you to be here, such as you are, and to be able to act as you do, without fear of retaliation, you must have connections. Tell me, what can you tell us of TGU that we might not already know? Do you know how one would be able to go about joining with the loose affiliation of criminals?"

Re: The Vondiranach Twins. The hell kind of question is that? Alema couldn't blame them, though. The direct approach was probably preferable, especially considering how badly they'd been conned recently. At least this way their intentions were clear, their desires were straightforward, and this combination spoke in their favor.
"Well, everyone around here finds ways to get things done. I found myself some long-term employment pretty early on, but you can bet that anybody around here has something they want handled, and if you make yourself helpful you'll make... well, if not friends you'll make connections."
She gave each of them a brief glance. It wasn't hard to tell where they might be especially talented, and Alema made a mental note of whom to call if she needed someone's face broken. However, it was always possible they had talents aside from cracking bones with their bare hands.
"So what do you guys do? Aside from making the occasional problem disappear, what sort of work are you looking for?"

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
"Well, we usually deal out in the mercenary jobs. But we've been known to hunt down some small time criminals that have a few credits on their head. We've done some flying jobs. Transportation of goods if you will. I'm pretty good at taking out security measures when it comes to machines, and we're both pretty good at taking out people.
My brother can con his way almost anywhere, and I'm the diplomat of us. He plays bad cop, I play good cop. We've always been trouble makers.... and we've never really had a fun time with authority."
Arnie stood up and grabbed the edge of the table with both hands. Giving a tug, the durasteal table squeaked out of its bindings and popped up off the floor. Moving it out of the way, he set his hands on his lap. "Obviously, we're quite strong. Took us a while to get that way too. I used to be the smallest kid ever.
Now, we can work as bouncers, body guards, hitmen, goons, you name it. We're kinda a jack of all trades. We can cook, clean, sew. Anything that needs done is our specialty. What needs done though, is the question currently at hand."

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
The Twi'lek held back an amused chuckle. "That's quite a list of talents you've got there." Alema was especially tempted by the possibility of having them help her experiment with some of the more elaborate dishes requiring the assistance of a couple of devoted associate chefs. After all, what was rycrit curry without an elaborate ritualistic bloodletting ceremony to silence the screams of a Dagoban mandrake?
It would be boring, that's what. Definitely not spicy enough.
However, Alema had more to think of than her own culinary ambitions. She had obligations to allies who deserved any assistance she could give, and if that meant she recruited help for them Alema was willing to do it. She knew that her crew had recently acquired some property and they might appreciate having a couple of extra hands around to work on getting everything up and running.
"So you mentioned that you're all right with taking out mechanical security measures, so I'd imagine you're fairly comfortable around machines. How much mechanic work do you do?"
It wasn't the most exciting or battle-heavy proposition they were likely to get from the underworld, but it was what Alema had to offer, and at least it was better than hiring them as custodians. She didn't have any real problem trying to work something out with these two. At least, not now that their manners had improved somewhat.

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
The other two had been conversing for a while now and Arty hadn't said anything. He had been eying the different customers, entering the bar. There were alot of shady characters about the place and it seemed like the average thug's bar. Then Arthur turned his head back to the conversation to hear:
"So you mentioned that you're all right with taking out mechanical security measures, so I'd imagine you're fairly comfortable around machines. How much mechanic work do you do?"
"Well... That's my brother's area of expertise, as they say. He's the one with all the mechanical stuff and I do the disguises... Hard to tell from how I acted earlier, I know... Anyway, Arnie's taught me a bit of mechanics and we've done jobs before - nothing big, though, just fixing speeders and things like that... Why? What was you thinkin'?"

"Yes. I can take a speeder apart and put it back together without missing a bolt. I can also get my way past almost any mechanical or electronic lock. And if my skills don't cut it, there's always brute strength."
Arnie folded his arms over and moved about nervously. "So, what do you have in mind?"Edited by: Arnie Vondiranach at: 7/13/07 6:55 pm

Re: The Vondiranach Twins."Well," she said. "That depends. Hm."
Alema was seldom out hiring for herself, but on a ship like the Revenge there was always something that needed to be done. Even if she couldn't trust these two as far as she could throw them--though how far they could throw her was another story from the looks of them--she didn't need to trust them much to hire them for something minor on a ship full of her allies.
"I work with the Crimson Ferret's Revenge," Alema offered, dropping the name of the notorious pirate vessel with a careful and deliberate straight face. "It's a big ship with a lot of jobs that are always looking to be done. If you don't mind a little short-term mechanic work, it might give you an opportunity to get to know some people who could find you more to do later."
It'll also give them time to size you up, she thought.
"I'm not in a position to make you part of the crew, but if you find a way to pitch in, anything could happen."

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
There was only one thing running through Arthur's mind after the Twi'lek had stopped - credits. After being scammed a few times and being out of jobs for a long time, the Twins were saving every credit they could get - things had gotten so bad that, a few weeks earlier, they had begun mugging people. It was a tough life, and one they weren't proud of, but they had to do it to survive.

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Alema shook her head. "That's not rude at all. You have every reason to be concerned about it. After all, it's your livelihood on the line and not mine." She chewed her lip and did some quick calculations in her head, trying to remember how much she'd been charged by the last mechanic to work on the Koahiko.
"How... about this. Depending on what they need you to do I'll pay you twenty-five to fifty credits an hour while you're working... though of course I won't pay you for spending an hour or two with the dancers or something. But!" She pointed at Arthur for emphasis. "If you're around for a meal, you can eat with us, too. I'll feed you for free. That way, whether you've got money or not, you don't have to worry about how you'll be eating for the next day or so. Fair?"

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
"That sounds fine...." Arnie began. He looked at the finger pointing at his brother and grimaced. It had been 79 hours since he had last eaten. "But what about me? Do I get to eat too, or is that just for him? In fact.... I don't suppose that you could give us an advance for some food. It's been a long while since I've eaten."
Arnie then caught onto the phrase about the dancers. "Oh, and don't worry. Even if one of us isn't working at the time, one of us always will be.... especially if it's mechanical or something. I usually like to do some good honest work."

Re: The Vondiranach Twins.
Alema shook her head and smacked herself in the forehead when Arnie asked if she'd feed him also. "Yes." She didn't want to mock their dilemma, but the sheer amount of caution about who was permitted to receive food from whom... with her hand over her eyes, the Twi'lek had to laugh. "Seriously. I'll feed you."
She drove one hand down into her pocket and pulled out a few dozen credits. She laid the credits down in the middle of the table. "Here. I wasn't doing anything with it anyway. Go get yourself something really quickly, and then you can meet me at the shuttle. Then we'll head up and find you something to do. 'kay? Seriously. It's fine."Edited by: Alema Nilim at: 7/29/07 4:10 pm
