Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
Generally when Alema was feeling out of control of her life, feeding Haly made her feel a little better. The python didn't ask much of her except the chance to eat something small and helpless for dinner once a week or so, and regular chances to absorb some of the desert-bred woman's body heat.
To be fair, isn't that what they all want from me? she thought unkindly. Well, they'll probably smell me cooking, but at least I'll have a few minutes of peace before the ravening hordes of concerned friends descend on the galley.
For some reason Alema had the fancy for some pancakes. Never mind that it was the middle of the night, and never mind that she couldn't eat a whole batch by herself. She wasn't paying for the ingredients anyway, and someone would come sniffing around the kitchen tomorrow and finish whatever she didn't eat.
She set down the little python in the center of the kitchen island. She didn't need that surface yet and it'd keep him from slipping off her neck and falling into anything she was cooking. She whisked the lumps out of the dough, the lean muscle on her arm standing out as she stirred, absently at first and then with a fury known only by dedicated bakers with serious repressed rage. The whisk flew as the frown on her face deepened.
What is wrong with them all? she thought, slamming the bowl down onto the island and narrowly missing a startled flour-covered snake. She sighed. This wasn't acceptable. She needed to get control of herself. She poured the pancake batter into the hot skillet and slowly the smell of breakfast drifted through the dimly lit galley.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
The halls were spookily quiet for some reason and Terran kept looking over his shoulder just to make sure someone wasn't sneaking up behind him. There was a gloom around him that no one seemed to be able to pick up on. That gloom was the result of Calina and Jon, the way the two of them seemed to be so onto each other. Terran couldn't stand to even think about them, which subsequently meant he had a hard time sleeping because all he dreamed about was himself beating up Jon.
Booted feet carried him down the hall and he passed through an intersection the smell of food wafted to his nose. His stomach responded immediately with a low rumble telling him that he was hungry and could definitely use a spot of food. Sighing, he rubbed his eyes and then turned to head off in the direction of where the smells were coming from. He didn't see anyone around as he walked along, but surely someone else was smelling the food and would show up at some point.
He soon found himself nearing the kitchen, the location which was emanating the good smell. Peering through the window in the door, he couldn't quite see anything so he shrugged and pushed open the door before walking in. Eyes scanned the room slowly and then they settled on Alema. Seeing that it was her, he frowned slightly and walked towards her, careful to make sure she knew he was coming.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
Alema turned to see that she had company and flicked on the overhead lights. She'd been keeping the kitchen darker, trying to evoke some of the old warmth and security of the lanterns back on Ryloth.
"Hey," she said. "Terran, right?" she asked. As soon as she saw another living creature, her composure kicked back on and brought with it that near-involuntary generosity that her crew tended to trigger immediately. If he needed food, he could have it. It also meant a convenient dodge for his question. He seemed like a nice enough young man, and it would be unfortunate if she had to wrap him in the same lies she pulled over the rest of her friends.
"Grab a plate," she suggested as she slid one toward him that had the first two pancakes on it already. "We don't have anything to put on it but butter and barabel preserves, but it's better than nothing. What brings you in? Just smelled cooking?"

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)"Sleeping trouble tends to make me hungry and I was walking about. Smelled the food and followed my nose."
He shrugged his shoulders and went towards the stack of plates, grabbing one before walking back over to where Alema was. It didn't much matter what it was that she was cooking and what there was to go with it because he'd eat it. Besides, it smelled really good and what usually smelled good tasted good. That was just the way that those senses went together. Add in the fact that he'd heard she was a good cook and he knew he was in for something good and satisfying.
She slapped the pancaked down upon it and he looked around for a fork with which to eat. Finding one, he slapped some preserves onto the cakes and cut a bite. Stuffing it into his mouth, he chewed upon it slowly while glancing over Alema. She was acting alright, but he had a sense of there being something wrong with her just as much as there was with him.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
Alema nodded as if Terran had casually mentioned that Tatooine had lots of sand. "He hasn't been on the ship long, but he seems to be making a lot of friends," she tossed off casually. To use a friendly euphemism."I guess I couldn't expect that trend to be universal."
She poured more batter in the pan and while her back was turned to Terran she allowed herself a brief lapse of control and frowned. Why would Terran mention Jon to her? Was it so obvious that she was one of the women he'd set his eye on?
One of many, she thought. Because I need more guys who think they can get in my pants by treating me like every other girl they know.
"Sorry Jon's causing you problems." She looked over, her shoulder to Terran to check that he was eating his pancakes. "I actually brought him here."
She carefully kept any trace of regret from her voice, but saw no reason to sound giddy about the fact that she was the reason Jon was aboard. She'd invited him because he needed a place to stay, needed a refuge as badly as she had when she was brought aboard. More and more that was becoming the only reason she was glad he was here. Jon needed a home more than she needed peace of mind.
Still. It was unfortunate that he was causing problems for Terran as well. Leaving the pancakes to cook through on their own, she turned to Terran with a frown of concern. "If you don't mind my asking... what's wrong?" she finished quietly.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)"Oh you know, he's just casually trying to steal the girl I'm interested in. From what I know, he does it to everyone."
Cutting another bite of pancake, he stuffed into his mouth to stifle a growl. Shaking his head, he glances around the room for a moment, ignoring the fact that Alema was right in front of him. All he could really hope for would be for Jon to show up right then. Terran would likely stab him in the eye with the very fork that he was eating his pancake with. It wouldn't bother him that much to merely cut the guys eyes out so that he couldn't see anyone anymore.
It took him a moment to notice that his hand, the one that was holding the fork, was shaking. Releasing the fork, he sat back away from the plate and crossed his arms over his chest to keep them from shaking. He hadn't realized just how much he hated Jon until then. Of course, if he actually did something to Jon people would just come down upon him like he was the villain of the story. That's what they always did to him...
"Wouldn't mind if he got blown up next mission..."
It didn't much matter to him that Alema was the one that brought Jon there. She didn't have any part in him trying to get into bed with every single woman that came onto the ship. That was all him. Terran couldn't stand it, though, and something had to be done about it.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)"Going after other men's chosen females? He doesn't do it to everyone, Terran. Not always at least," Alema replied. "After all, he's always been awfully friendly with me and I know no one else on the ship is interested there. Perhaps this time is just coincidence," she answered with a shrug.
Easier to have such a coincidence when Jon really was sidling up to every female he met, though. Certainly tipped the odds in a certain direction. Despite Jon's best efforts to be friendly, approachable, and non-threatening, he was still committing the same sin that Savin had before him: taking her no more seriously than any other woman who caught his eye. He might have been trying to get closer to her, but there was nothing that could push her away faster or more completely.
Seemed appropriate to at least say something in his defense, though. "Jon's not a bad man, I think. Certainly not worth that kind of ill wish. I apologize that he's getting in your way, but I worry more for whoever this young lady is. He has a tendency to approach women as though they're solution to all his problems: the end to loneliness and despair, the beginnings of friendship, companionship, a purpose." She clicked her tongue disapprovingly. Maybe it's just his training getting to him. I know the same has happened to me more than once.
"At any rate, while Jon probably isn't doing this to hurt you specifically, you're right not to blame this girl either. Jon can be very charming, and if she doesn't keep her head about her... she's going to come to a rude awakening when the next cute little pair of legs comes along to turn his head."

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)"I don't care whether he does it on purpose or not. The fact of the matter is that he's doing it. I've seen him do it before and I'm sure I'll see him do it again. But I'm not going to sit by and watch him do it to Calina."
Stuffing his hands further beneath the arms on the opposite side, he did his best to control the anger which was swelling up inside of him. He really couldn't stand the thought of Calina being with Jon. After having seen him kiss her back on Velusia he wanted nothing more than to beat the brains out of the guy. Terran wasn't going to stand for Jon doing what he always did, not with Calina, and he wasn't just going to sit around. The problem, however, is what was he going to do about it.
"Jon has to be stopped. Now and for good. The problem is, I don't know how to stop him short of offing him and I won't do that."
He might like to do that right about then, but there was no way he would do it. The entire squadron would have been up in arms against him if he did that despite the fact that they were pirates. Anything goes amongst pirates, normally, but there were just some things that you didn't allow. One was killing of other pirates unless in a duel, the other was stealing a man's girl. Jon probably hadn't known of Terran's affections for Calina, but Terran knew how Jon was and that was enough to make Terran angry.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
Alema turned away to flip over a pancake and took a few paces closer to Terran. "Listen... believe me when I say I know how it feels to have someone doing what he's doing. But I won't sugarcoat it for you. If you and this girl had made a connection and Jon had some reason to be aware of this, then what he's doing is wrong."
"On the other hand, you can't write her out of the equation completely. This isn't just two guys fighting over some damsel with no stake in the outcome. If you two weren't hitting it off, she's not your girl. If Jon doesn't know that someone else is interested in her, that also means you can't really blame him."
"Still... he is being a little oblivious to how his actions are affecting other people." She pulled one of her lekku over her shoulder and leaned her cheek against it thoughtfully. "Jon isn't the only one on this ship who has a hard time not... accidentally hurting other people. But going after him isn't going to help."
Alema couldn't deny that she still felt somewhat protective of Jon, despite the deep disapproval his actions elicited in her. She'd brought him on board for good reasons, reasons that were still valid. He needed this place, and it would be inappropriate to deny him the safety and stability he was looking for. He still deserved that much, whatever he'd done.
Despite that, her feelings toward Jon were not the chief reason for discouraging Terran's vague allusions to potential violence. It wouldn't simply be wrong. It really would not work. Jon could handle himself in a fight, and punching him in the face would hardly be likely to enlighten the man. No, if Jon wanted to continue to carry himself as a warm and compassionate man, he needed to be able to see himself as one. Given that, it would be much harder for him to continue blithely on if he couldn't plead ignorance of other crewmen's feelings.
"I don't want to sound preachy, but I think you should talk to him, Terran. I mean, actually talk to him instead of railing at him for stealing your girl. If you care enough to talk to me, you should care enough to talk to him, or even to the girl herself."Like I should have, she finished silently.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
His mouth opened and closed a few times, the obvious sign that he wanted to say something in regards to what she had said. No words escaped him, however, and he found himself feeling more like he was tongue tied than he had ever before. What was there to say? She was right, of course, that Jon couldn't know just how Terran felt about Calina. How could he know when Terran hadn't even told Calina? The problem with the whole matter really didn't have to do with what he had said, but he was starting to think that maybe he just shouldn't tell her.
The next little thing she said was also probably a good idea but he could see no good outcome coming from talking to Jon. In fact, he wasn't sure if he could see a good outcome from talking to either of him. Terran's hopes were starting to slowly sink back into oblivion just like what had happened when Rhyler had left. She had been Terran's previous love interest and he'd really thought that he had a chance with her. Those hopes hadn't come to fruition and he'd been left in the dark once again.
"I can't talk to Jon because he'll just point out that Calina and I weren't together before. No good would come of talking to him. Guess I need to talk to Calina."

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
Alema nodded. This was progress at least. He was talking about talking instead of talking about more drastic reactions. "I haven't been talking to Jon much of late, either. Not anything meaningful. You might have better luck with Calina. After all... she'll either be understanding or she won't. If you talk to her and she's insensitive or cruel about the whole thing... might be a clue that you wouldn't have wanted to be in a relationship with her anyway."
That was the surprise Savin had given her a while back. When she finally got up the nerve to say something to the Mandalorian, she was already far too angry to care much whether he was as dismissive and casual about her objection as he'd been about their whole relationship until then. The surprise had been a good one, but one that had complicated things. He'd stopped treating her with the shallow and juvenile disregard men reserved for an easy lay, but it hadn't really changed anything.
Serrena still got there first. And what could I do?
It was likely that things had already passed beyond Terran's control, but Calina owed the man some peace of mind if his feelings for her were as genuine as Terran seemed to believe they were.
Alema turned around again to flip the pancake over and slide it onto the stack of food waiting to be served. "Even if nothing much comes of it? Even if nothing changes, you know you'll be kicking yourself for a long time if you don't at least tell her how you feel," she continued without turning to face him. "And the longer you keep silent, the harder it's going to be to see her moving on, wondering if maybe there would have been room for you if you'd only gotten there more quickly."

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)"It's that first bit I'm worried about. She seems kind of.. well I don't know how to describe it really. She comes off as insensitive sometimes, but she isn't. I dunno."
Unwrapping his arms from around his body, he reached a hand forward and once again picked up the fork on his plate. He had every intention of at least finishing off the pancakes that Alema had given him. It wouldn't be very polite of him to leave some of it behind for her to clean up. No, he wanted to make a clean plate for her and he was going to do that. Besides, he was still somewhat hungry and his stomach was saying 'feed me' every two seconds.
Stuffing a bite of the pancake into his mouth, he chewed on it slowly, taking a few deep breaths every once in a while. He didn't know how things had gotten suddenly so out of hand. When he had parted ways with Calina he hadn't expected to see her again and he definitely hadn't expected to be jealous of her and Jon when she showed up. Needless to say, Calina had made a major impact on his life whether she knew it or not.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
Grimy after another set of repairs on his TIE/D, Nathaniel had bothered enough to wash his face and hands, but not enough to absolutely change clothes. His coveralls were soiled and greasy-looking from whatever had leaked onto them while he was making his modifications.
Entering, he gave Alema and Terran a curt nod and then went scrounging for snacks he'd hidden. Where were they? He hoped Alema hadn't found them already and put them where they realy belonged. If so, he'd have to start hiding food in his own quarters...

Draven walked through the halls of the big rust bucket half asleep. He had on his black muscle shirt and a pair of boxers. His boots were making little noise. He ran a hand through his short black hair and felt the hat hair. The style he always had do to his never removing his hat. He yawned as walked into the kitchen.
He went straight for the the bar stand and grabbed a bottle. Then casually lit up a smoke, he turned slowly and noticed he wasn't alone. A bunch of folk he hadn't met yet and Nate their leader. The cowboy nodded as he sat down not concerned about how he looked right now with the clothes on.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
Alema smelled smoke, wrinkled her nose, and turned around to notice a couple new additions to her little dinner party. "I am, and please put out that death stick, at least while I'm cooking. We have a bar for a reason." Not only were death sticks terrible for this guy's health, they were terrible for her health and most importantly they were covering up the smell of her cooking and filling the galley with their stink.
She turned to Nathaniel. "Hey Nate, if you're hungry you can grab some pancakes. Got another plate ready." She nudged the small stack toward him. "And I didn't move anything. Why don't you have a seat and grab something proper to eat?"
It was then that she realized... She'd been offering life advice to a young man she barely knew. She'd just scolded someone for smoking inside. She'd also suggested to a boy who'd wandered into her kitchen that he wasn't eating enough and begun shoving free food at him. When did I become everyone's mom? she wondered. Is this recent?

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)"Um... okay?"
Nathaniel accepted the short stack and went searching for fixings for them. He'd seen others eat pancakes, and while they weren't a food item he'd ever tried, Nate was willing to give it a shot. Devorah had already taught him it was good to try new things.
Passing Draven, one of his new pilots, he whispered, "Might want to listen. I'm heard she hits people with that spatula thing if they don't. But can I bum a deathstick for later?"
The teenager had been trying to quit, but the success in that only depended on his ability to get deathsticks. Nate had quit when he didn't have any, and had taken up the habit when he could find some.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)"Death sticks are gonna kill you before another pilot does, Nate."
Now was as good a time as any to settle another score, one completely different from the score he had to settle with Calina and Jon. He had to find out what it was that made Nate hate him so much. Why did this guy, whom Terran actually supported as the commander of the squadron, so hate him? It was really starting to bother him.

To be blunt, Terran had been the outsider when he made his way back to the Ferrets. He didn't really know how Nate led things and he didn't know what was to be expected of him as a pilot. That's why he'd asked what the man's orders were, not because he was trying to poke holes in Nate's resolve or anything of the sort.

Nathaniel snorted, wanting nothing more than to get back to those pancakes Alema had made. He didn't want to have "shop talk" just then; he was hungry!
"Look: I don't like a lot of people. But it's really nothing personal, okay?" Nathaniel sighed. "You're actually better than I thought. I figured you'd return and demand the squadron back since you're a lot more seasoned pilot than I am."
Wonder if he'll think I'm calling him old now?

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)"I don't want the squadron back, Nate. I'm not an efficient leader. That's why I wasn't leading it after the first two times."
Slowly he cut into the last bit of his pancakes, slicing off a piece of it. It was all just a misunderstanding then. Nate didn't really hate him, he was just on edge about other things and didn't want to have to fight someone for control of the squadron. He couldn't blame him for that.

Nathaniel nodded, stepping over to the table and taking a seat. He eyed his pancakes, and then glanced back up at Terran.
"Then we've got nothing to worry about, huh?"
He made a mental note to ask around about Terran, better than he had before. What did he mean that he wasn't an 'efficient leader'? Nate knew why Haldon had left; with his visual issues, Dorothy to contend with and the fact that he was building a family life... That he could understand. Terran? That had the new IF leader a little puzzled.

The sounds of voices echoed through the vents waking the sleeping jawa. He had passed out while placing cameras watching everyones rooms. He crawled towards the clammer and in his half concious state fell with a ungracious thud from the shaft onto a table below. He rubbed his side and looked up, he saw a few of the other Ferrets sitting down with a meal.
"Got any Tusken pie"
He stumbled to his feet and made his way to the table.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
Content for now that Nate and Terran were getting along a little better, their twi'lek hostess turned and let her mind return to her own problems. The more of these pancakes she made, the less she found she wanted any. It was becoming maddening. Lately she'd found that she couldn't cook anything she really wanted, and even if she was interested at the start the finished product just... didn't appeal.
It was fortunate that there were so many people aboard willing to dispose of the product of her nervous energy. What had started as a way to show her gratitude and affection for her friends had become a way to distract herself from the growing feeling that this place was not living up to its promise of companionship and purpose Alema had seen for it.
If I can't be happy, I can at least be useful, she thought as she pulled Haly from the table and wiped away the streak of flour his tail had left along its surface. Draped over her neck, the poor startled reptile curled around her skin nervously. Somehow he always seemed to pick up on Alema's mood, and sometimes she felt guilty that she couldn't quite keep it to herself, even if none of the sentient creatures aboard noticed.
Alema started when Tsiil fell down onto from the ceiling, and didn't quite realize what was going on until he got up and joined the others at the main galley table. She didn't know the jawa well, but thought it might be best to humor him for now. After all he was a desert native too, and his request hadn't been that unreasonable. "No, sorry," she answered evenly. "Just pancakes tonight, I'm afraid. If you get me the ingredients and a recipe I could throw something together for you in a couple days, though."

Draven raised an eyebrow at the twi'lek and muttered something as he reached a smoke to Nate. The mando born pilot snuffed the smoke out in a near by ash tray and stood up. Moving towards the refrigerator units that housed a few of his specialty items. Bantha sausage and ronton bacon.
" Come on now cant have pancakes without sausage. How yalll want yer eggs" he shot a wink toward the Twi'lek.
He watched the jawa crash down and ask for tusken pie. A recipe he didnt feel like using today. Maybe with Gamorrean blood eel.

Re: Breakfast for Dinner (IC, CFR only)
The long halls of the CFR never seemed longer...
Long, powerful legs carried the D'xun-born Mand'ade down toward the mess with purposeful steps that barely registered to his conscious mind.
Soon, his people would be heading to Geonosis and he had to meet with the Archduke to secure their landing and an agreement. And after -that- meeting, he would be off to Korriban to attend another. The Sith where about to tear eachother apart at the -worst- possible time. Couldn't they have agreed to have their fallout -after- the mando'ade where done with them? And then, there was the multiple clan leaders he needed to address on the Geonosis landing and beyond.
There was so much on th Mandalore's mind, he had to stop twice to remember where he was going. A bottle of Black ale, to go with his prized verpine assault rifle and some time to just -relax- with his weapon and his tools. Time's like this, he wished his riduur was around.
He was certain she was probably still at her apartment and not on-board. And even if she was, he couldn't spend -too- much time with her as he would have to spend most of the short window of time he had here getting ready to go again. Now was the only time he really could afford himself. And, dammit if he didn't bring this all on himself.
Mandalore
He had -no- idea how much hearing those words pass Zelazny's lips would change his life. And what about his life? He was living to his full potential. He was affecting change on a galactic scale. He was building a legacy his children would be -proud- of. That his father was -certain- to be proud of...
:::But, are you happy, ad'ika?:::
He could almost hear his mother's voice in his head. 'Are you happy?'. It would be the kind of question she would ask him. He couldn't say it wasn't a valid one.
Was he happy? Of course. He should be. He is the Mand'alor be te Beskar'Marev. The sole leader of his people. He was seeing a new golden age dawning for his culture. Of course, he should be happy.
But, was he, really?
He was so lost in his thoughts that he had not even noticed that he had already entered the mess and, wordlessly made his way to the fridge, blinking as he opened the door as if the cool air snapped him out of a daydream. One that had him wearing an uncharacteristic frown then entire way to the fridge. Not to mention the fact that he said -nothing- to -anyone- upon entering...not even a single comment about the food that was being distributed....
