New Post Rise of Darkness
"Oh, I know you're here."

A thought that had not eluded him in the least had been the ever present aura of his twin, Raine. For quite sometime she had been lurking about this place and in due time the pair should greet each other once again. Now had not been the time for family reunions and such other wasted occassions; instead, Auron had come for a much darker purpose. Much like Raine, the Marzullo had been sent here by their father to gain knowledge of the traditions of the Sith. Auron thought they were overly arrogant, self-indulgent... a stain on the galaxy. Well, much like anyone else apart from the Marzullo bloodline. This thought, this devilish thought, caused a grin to crease on his face while his hands dug deep into his pockets.

Auron glanced around the beginnings of the temple; if they are true about first impressions, he might as well have taken a leak on this one. He admired it though for it was as dark and dreary as his heart. Slithering his hands from his pockets, Auron launched his arms into the air, a shallow laugh escaping his lips...

"I challenge anyone brave enough to train me to come out of whatever hole you're hiding in."

New Post Re: Rise of Darkness
The only Sith outside happened to be a different sort of woman than perhaps Auron would expect from a population filled with decadent and perverse hedonists. Shakti got tired quickly of the other Sith, and ever since the meeting on Korriban in which some Sith had taken it on themselves to destroy the records and library, Shakti didn't trust them, either.

She seldom returned to Korriban anymore except to meet with a few contacts who still seemed to have decent heads on their shoulders. The whole place made her skin crawl, and everyone in it pissed her off. If she hadn't been here for a specific purpose, she'd have been content to stay among sane persons. However, her purpose was an important one. On a semi-regular basis she'd begun convincing some of the more brazen archivists to smuggle out what they could and make copies of what they couldn't. Korriban was quickly becoming the home of a very different and iconoclastic sort of Sith, and Shakti wasn't having it.

Today she was sitting outside to resist the temptation to put a lightsaber between the shoulder blades of the torture nuts down in the basement. Everything they did was gratuitous and idiotic, and Shakti was in no mood to bother with them.

"I challenge anyone brave enough to train me to come out of whatever hole you're hiding in."

When she heard the call of the ambitious young man, Shakti happened to be watching a documentary on her datapad with an orange popsicle hanging out of her mouth. She groaned and stood, dusted off the backside of her black trousers, and slowly turned the corner around the wall to find a man bristling with hostility and arrogance.

She let him wait for a moment for her response while she sucked the melting juice from her popsicle. "I wouldn't say we're hiding. I was simply busy with something vastly more interesting than you." She stretched out her arm to gaze at her delicious frozen snack. "The last orange popsicle." Licking it again, she raised her eyebrow at Auron. "So what's your name and are you more interesting than my tasty treat here?"

Many males out in the galaxy would have been offended by being greeted, let alone talked to in such a manner, by a female. Auron was not so callous nor had he any gull to underestimate a female. After all, his family had been comprised of several women who could handle their own... even proved to be better warriors than their male counterparts. However, Auron was ever prideful and despised being mocked by anyone. With the extension of his hand, Auron jerked the popsicle away; his tongue encircled the frozen treat before slurping what had been left into his mouth. A smile, sly and insincere, shown as he devoured the icepole, the wooden stick dandling between his fingers. Auron stepped closer to her and tapped the tip of her nose with the stick.

"Auron Marzullo."

There would be no intense shock if his surname had not sounded off any bells or whistles - he really didn't expect it to. With the dormancy of his relatives, it was expected. Auron was bound to remedy that soon enough.

"Interesting doesn't even begin to sum it up."

Discarding the wooden stick over his shoulder, Auron nudged his way past the girl and stopped only a few footsteps away.

"So tell me, girl are you the one who came to answer my challenge or are you just something of a distraction? Because if you think you're going to be the one to train me, may hell help you."

New Post Re: Rise of Darkness
((OOC: I'm beginning to love this character, but try to keep an eye on character control when it comes to other players. Another Sith wouldn't have let you steal that and tap her with it, and to be frank Shakti might not have either.))

Shakti's fingers spread open as the popsicle was snatched away, and she watched with some curiosity as he finished it off.

Well, there goes that, she thought, turning her attention to Auron. Poor thing just couldn't handle a rival for my attentions... from a popsicle. Pretty typical guy, now that I think about it. Nice haircut. Takes things without asking. Not too much taller than me, but I bet he wishes he was. I don't like his shoes but on the up-side, they do match his belt.

These all added up to one thing. "Interesting?" She snatched the popsicle stick from the ground outside the temple with the Force and carried to her hand. "You strike me as a spoiled little b*tch with no sense of humor, which I'd hardly call interesting," she commented. "I'd call it downright common. And as for distracting you from your very important business of groveling before the darkness and supplicating a bunch of assholes for their power..." She grinned. "Maybe. Maybe not."

She'd been hoping not to have to demonstrate her power to this one, since on Korriban she always felt more... porous somehow. There was no lack of power, but sometimes it was hard for her to keep the power out. "You're lucky I'm probably the nicest little chick you're going to meet around here. I'll just remind you that I can give you a root canal with my mind instead of just going ahead and doing it for effect, because my mommy taught me to use my words." With a dismissive flick of her hand she gathered her will and sent it flying through the Force to deal a quick and crushing blow to the front of his throat. It was faster than a Force choke, but did suffer somewhat from a lack of dramatic effect by comparison.

"Also. My name is not girl, my name is Shakti. Maybe with some Sith you can get by with no damned social skills," she pouted, her voice taking a syrupy compassionate tone. "But I know you can do better. I have faith in you, my spoiled little Marzullo."

Now I see why Maize doesn't take many students. Sometimes I think I hate Sith. Such pains in my ass.

She couldn't deny that he was somewhat unpredictable, though. She hadn't decided yet whether to let him entertain her or to pull his entrails out through his nose. There was probably still time to decide.

With the casual title of his head, Auron mentally disected every inch of the Sith. Something of her brutally reminded him of why his father had often tuned his mother out; perhaps now was the time to perfect his selective hearing. Auron was curious where she had gotten enough never to call him spoiled. That in itself was a laugh... it was Raine who had always been the spoiled one. Auron would have gotten himself in a heap had he really acted in such a way. Before he could smart-off some off the cuff remark, an invincible blowmay way to his throat. Taken off guard and off step, the male Marzullo was pushed back coughing. She was fiesty... he kind of liked that. Once Auron regained some composure about himself and cleared his aching throat, he couldn't help but laugh.

"Well, my little Shakti, you are by far the most common of females. Being cute doesn't cut it..."

Auron mused over how flustered her tone seemed to him; indeed, he was going to revel in the time he would be forced into spending with Shakti.

"And for something on the record, I'm not a Sith."

Such a misconception among those who had not been familiarized with his heritage. It hadn't mattered too much to Auron, but the difference would soon make itself clear.

((OOC: Hakuna matata. I did say that I really like Auron. I fully anticipate these two annoying the bejesus out of each other. Also, feel free to catch me on AIM if you use it.))

The most common of females? she thought. That decides it. He's kind of fun. I like a boy who can b*tch back. "Well you'll have to forgive my mistake, Mister Walk Up to the Temple on Korriban and Demand Training. And I'm not quite sure what to make of that 'being cute' remark."

She stretched out her arms and cracked the joints in her fingers. "Well, thanks to you I missed the end of my documentary, so my plans are all f***ed up now. I guess I'm supposed to do the whole intimidating introduction of ultimate shadowy initiate shady dark darkness and s***. So what the hell do you want here if you're so determined that you're not a Sith?"

If it was torture lessons and tips on pushing down old ladies, Auron would have to go someplace else. If he were looking for anything interesting Shakti might try and find the patience to deal with the cocky little bastard.

"I did not come here by my own accord, that I can asure you."

A tone as glacial as the icy death seaped from thinned lips, Auron's eyes flashing with a warning glare; quite a chnage from his nonchalant demeanor. It had not been a personal selection to come to this circle of hell - not by a long shot. He felt it was vastly below him and he could already do so much more than parlor tricks. Urging to resist the growl thrashing around to be released, he heavily sighed and briefly looked away. How embarrassing.

"I have come to learn the lifestyle of a Sith, to gain their knowledge, and to learn of things I would not on Pergitor. In other words, a to become more aware of a different path than just that of my heritage."

Shoulders raised effortlessly then falled as Auron glanced back at Shakti. He almost for sorry for her, but that feeling flickered out quickly.

"My sister had come here as a child. You and and naive to the Marzullo culture... the life our father wanted her to shed from. I on the other hand could careless either way and I prefer to carve my own path. I hold no nonsense for trivial things such as cults or clans. I never have."

"Hn," she replied thoughtfully. "So basically you want to know anything interesting, decide if you like it, and ignore anything you don't."

This would have profoundly angered many of the orthodox Sith on Korriban, guardians of the ancient pride and traditions of the Sith. Such disregard for their culture would have resulted in expulsion at best and a cruel death at worst.

I guess he's lucky he's talking to me, then, isn't he?

"I hear that. Though honestly if you were looking for a multicultural experience, this madhouse wouldn't have been my first recommendation." She sighed and scratched the top of her head. "You seem fairly convinced you don't need to learn jack s@#$ from anybody, so What do you say you come inside with me, do basically whatever you want as long as you don't break the antiques, and anybody who doesn't like it... either you can rough them up or they can come get my foot in their ass. I don't actually care."

The f@#$. Am I taking an apprentice? Maybe it doesn't count if I don't need to do anything. He can just say he has a master, I can say I have a student, and never the twain shall meet. I mean, unless he asks me something. But mainly, yeah.

"Don't mistake yourself for being completely useless. I'm sure I'll need you for something or another."

Auron flashed a boy-next-door smile as a hand rustled through his dark hair; though he had come here by force beyond his will, the Marzullo had decided to make the best of what this entire hell trip. He ad never truned down a chnace to improve his already known skills. Perhaps Shakti could fullfill this endeavour. Shoveling his hands deep within his pockets, Auron dipped his head to the side in what could appea to be an agreement.

"I never said I didn't have things to learn. Who knows, maybe you know something I don't. But, uhm... I don't want this holiday to be completely without worth. So, how about you start by showing me around here."

Shakti snorted in amusement. "Holiday on Korriban. Wow." She just shook her head. She didn't come here for fun. She came here to steal things, more often than not. "Anyway, yeah. That sounds fine."

Leading him inside the gate, she passed a rubbish bin and dropped her popsicle stick into it. Later tonight it would probably be incinerated along with whatever physical remnants were left of the gratuitous and unnecessary violence that was a pastime for many Sith at the temple.

"I hang out mostly in the library, but we've got enough apprentices here that the mess isn't total s@#%, and the rooms.... could be worse. At least you don't have to sleep tied down to a rack or anything," she joked. "If you ever need to torture somebody or perform some really bizarre ritual that can't be done by the light of day... that's why we have the basement. Sure there's the occasional maladjusted gothkid wannabe down there, but now and again you get experts." She shrugged. "Not my field, but if that's what blows your skirt up, I can get somebody to help you out with it."

Now that she thought about it... "You mentioned that you were hoping to learn more about new ways of approaching the galaxy. Lifestyles of the perverse and insane, all that. I tend to swing closer to the scholarly end of things. Like I said, I putter around in the library a good deal when nothing needs killing. There are Sith who're more versed in some of the ancient lore than I am, and Sith at my level that are... a little better in combat. I do the middle-ground thing."

Cracking her knuckles again, a bad and occasionally somewhat obnoxious habit, Shakti continued. "So, given what you know about me and what I do... what are you looking to do? Got anything specific yet?"

"A scholar. How... quaint."

It had not been a quality worth snubbing, many of his relatives were scholars. Auron had enough intellectual interaction and hardly cared for visiting his library unless quite needed. A disconcerning look vividly shown across his face as Auron gave a brief shrug.

"Bizarre rituals? I am not a cultist. How to approach the galaxy?"

Auron's chiseled features tightened for a moment just before he sighed.

"I quest for a greater knowledge of power. Either it intellectual or otherwise. Anything gained brings me a step closer in aiding my family's ultimate goal as well as my own. Anything you already know will sufice."

There wasn't anything that Auron would pass where it would offer a much more... smoother... route in obtaining his own goals. He had hoped that Shakti would not dissappoint; if she did, it would not sit well with either of his parents.

"I do not know much of you, Shakti. Tell me, do you have family?"

Shakti gave a single dry laugh. "Family? Of course I have a family. Everyone with a genetic inheritance had a family. No one particularly interesting to you, though."

It wasn't precisely a lie. When pressed to lie Shakti tended to have little success, so every now and again dodging the issue had to suffice. Her brother was none of Auron's business, and if Auron decided he was... Well. If Auron decided Sal was any business of his, he would have more to worry about than Shakti's occasional vague word choice.

"Though I suppose Darth Saevitia would probably insist that she be counted in that number. Perhaps there are a few you'd care about after all." Shakti reached back behind her head to pull her hair back into a ponytail.

"So. If I'm going to give you a hand with whatever Things or Stuff, I'd like a better idea where you're coming from. Sure, power's good, but everyone knows that. What's trickier is figuring out what to do once you've got it. So... after you know everything or can kick everyone else's asses or maybe just manipulate people into doing whatever thing you want... what then?"

A brow gave a fluid uplift as Auron sensed that Shakti was finding a way to avoid his question with such an indirect response. No matter, he didn't care much for specifics and no matter who he had given such an answer to, none would ever amount to the respon he could give concerning his own relations. Auron had known not of this Darth Saevitia person, and yet again, he had not given a care either. But any knowledge gained could be used later for leverage of some sort.

"There is no end to conquest, whether it be literal or on some personal level. Should there be a resolve to any of this, I would like to have a family of my own or perhaps go into the medical field like my mother. Such things are secondary at this moment, however."

Shakti nodded, approving. "I was just wondering if you wanted things as an individual and not merely as an instrument of super-conquering. Part of my own approach has been accumulating the power to defend my own freedom to pursue my goals." She grinned suddenly. "Once I decide what the hell they are."

She led Auron into the temple itself, and started him on a walk that wasn't entirely aimless, but took a meandering route to the residential area where Auron would be staying. "So next question. You obviously know a bit about the Sith, so I won't sit here and try to teach you what the Force is. But I do want to know your impressions of the Sith so far." As they walked down the hallway, she traced her fingers along an inscription on the wall. Tiny little charges of aggression and ambitions crackled and hissed from the letters under her skin up to her mind.

The inscription ran from one end of the hall to the other and read, Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

"To the Sith, this is everything. What do you think of it?"

"The Sith are useless and self-wallowing children. They no nothing of true power, nor how to harness such. Their over-confidence and lack of intent skill make them easy prey. They should only be so lucky they are not of the same worthlessness as the Jedi are."

To a Marzullo, Sith were just as lowly and frowned upon as subhumans. Since Shakti had not known of such things, Auron gave an indifferent shrug.

"I don't care for the Sith, personally. They only excell in the areas of breeding."

Breeding; the sheer thought caused Auron to snear lightly. He couldn't imagine having his own offpsring anytime soon. There had been too much to accomplish in such short time as it was. The thought ruptured as Shakti muttered off the Sith code; it did nothing for him, though some lyrics made sense. However, Auron refused to live his life by such nonesense regardless.

"Peace and passion are faulty and there are margins for error in them. Peace is a contradiction in itself causing it to be a lie, where as passion will blind you. I have no need for that. Strength? Ha. One does not need such a thing to obtain victory. In failure, you see more clearly than through your winnings and the Force is the ultimate nirvana for freedom no matter how one gets to that point."

New Post Re: Rise of Darkness
Breeding! And they certainly do that... Shakti thought, thinking of the rather sizeable Wayne family into which she'd been informally accepted. Not that the Marzullos are any better! Shakti allowed herself a private smirk at the connection.

Still. She had to chuckle at his frank and brutal assessment of the Sith. He wasn't wrong on many counts, and his words had the self-assured complete honesty of a child who didn't know the consequences. Shakti herself didn't go to quite the same extremes, but she could appreciate them.

"Well. Let me preface this by saying that you technically just professed a lot of heresy there. I assume you're telling me that because you know I'm not going to flip out and kill you for answering a question frankly, and that you're also well aware not all Sith here are quite as... lenient about orthodoxy as I am." Truth was Shakti had her own private heresies, things she hadn't shared even with her master. Unorthodox as he prided himself on being, it was possible that she went further. Perhaps Kass would have understood but then again, perhaps not.

"You make an excellent point that failure is an excellent teacher, and if you can sometimes learn more in hindsight from failure than from victory it does call into question whether you can hold either as a universal."

This was something of a relief. Shakti had never taken an apprentice because she couldn't stand the idea of sitting and listening to a would-be apprentice ranting about Jedi genocide. Not when she could be playing foosball. Those sorts of people she couldn't talk to as equals. They were just fodder for mockery until she got bored. Perhaps Auron would be able to handle a grownup conversation.

"But just because something can't be held as a universal doesn't mean it's worthless. I mean, carry any thought to its natural and inevitable end and it becomes totally unrecognizable and nearly always profoundly stupid. At that rate, what can you believe at all?"

Shakti was curious to hear his answer.

"My dear, Shakti, it would not matter if it was you who I was telling or someone else. I am not one to hide my opinion for anyone."

Auron sucked in the corner of his lip and gave her a careless look; the young man really didn't care what anyone thought and he knew enough Sith to be able to formulate his opinion thoroughly.

"Before you misjudge my relatives, we breed for neccessity. We do not have children just because we can not control ourselves."

It had been an topic that often linked breeding with the Marzullos; their family spanned beyond hundreds, but it was their way of survival.

"Most everything in this life is a masked lie and eventually everyone... and everything... lets you down. I believe that death is inevidable and that is the only truth. Then again, if the only truth one can believe is their own, is that a lie? Universal in anything is a falsehood, for its not the same anyway. Being universal, no matter the thing or idea or belief, is held as equal. But, if for one moment it alters, the true meaning does become worthless."

Shakti had gotten used to the idea by now that he was potentially listening in on her thoughts, but much as Auron professed a disdain for hiding his opinion... Shakti had little incentive to keep her thoughts from what amounted to her apprentice. Most of them came right out of her mouth immediately anyway.

"You're touching on something that not a lot of Sith can stomach. The idea that even they don't know the truth. An orthodox Sith will, as a rule, cling to the notion that evil and darkness are somehow more natural and intuitive than light, that their impulses are a more reliable guide than externally imposed dogma."

They turned another corner and the end of the Sith code disappeared as they left the decorated wall behind. "But that kind of determination to be evil. It admits tacitly that the Jedi are right. That everything fits into two neat little categories, one good and the other bad. You're free to disagree, but I don't think there is any meaningful judgment out there. There's nothing to say what's good or bad, certainly not the Force. People use power. That's really the only thing close to a universal I've found. They use power for whatever they want and denounce whoever gets in their way... Jedi or Sith."

She glanced over at him as they walked. "So what do you denounce? Besides wanton breeding and my popsicles."

Unlike his twin who could only hear fragments of others' thoughts, Auron heard them clearly; all these years, he believed Raine had sheltered herself from these things. She probably felt safer that way, but that mattered little to him.

"It only matters to those who profess that they are Sith or that they are Jedi. I, am neither."

As thw rods flowed from her pretty mouth, Shakti had a valued opinion on what she deemed as universal and Auron found to be beside himself at how he agreed with her. Curious eyes beheld the Sith for a moment as she glanced to him, their walk continuing forth.

"I do not have anything against your popscicles, silly Shakti. I do however, have a disdain for subhumans and non-force users, the tainted ones in my family, Sith, Jedi, the filthy garabge of music around the holonet, and the ever laying fear of not amounting to what my father desires of me. All in all, I think I have much promise."

She tried not to give any thought to what exactly Auron's father expected of him and why the pressure was so great. If her parents had been given their greatest wish Shakti would probably be a mother of five by now.

If they had my wish I'd be dead. The bitterness came unbidden, but was so familiar Shakti dismissed it immediately. For now Auron was indeed more interesting.

"All in all, I think I have much promise."

Not for the first time in the conversation, Shakti was struck by what an arrogant little prick her new apprentice could be. She decided it was growing on her.

"Yeah, I think so too," she agreed with him. "Though honestly. The Jedi and the Sith are only really really obnoxious in groups. As individuals they're not as uptight and orthodox as they'd have you think, but get them all together?" Shakti had a sudden mental image of the councilwide gathering in the temple some months ago. "It becomes this huge idiot party to see who can discover a more inane approach to pointless violence." Another important point for discussion. Worth bringing up. "Speaking of pointless violence. You've plainly got a good handle on the whole 'hey there's this Force thing' deal, but do you have any idea yet what direction you'd want to go with combat-things?"

"I can not atest to such ignorance in their groups, but only know what I hear from my sister and aunt."

Raine had been a knight of this Sith order and his Aunt Talena one of the other order.... of Jedi. That thought thoroughly disgusted him and he could taste the remanents of vomit looming at the background of his throat. Though, he wasn't entirely sure it was it was of her own accord; she held an affinity for some male, who called himself Ordan something-or-another. Auron loathed him beyond words.

"I simply look to hone my skills further. I have no set course as anything in particular. My father, is a Sith Master after all. His methods are insane and I'm looking for something other than that. Teach me what you know and just perhaps, you might also learn something from me."

Even to Auron his trailing sentance seemed... arrogant. But wasn't that the point? One always learned from someone else despite the role of student or teacher.

Shakti stretched her arms up above her head and with her fingers knotted together she cracked her elbows. "Yup," she said. "Learning's pretty damned keen, gotta say. I'll give you one warning about me. You couldn't call my methods insane, which is a start, I suppose. But I didn't end up with a master myself until surprisingly late in the game. I ended up focusing a fair bit on telekinesis because it's much easier to practice on your own."

She grinned over at him, recalling his little trick earlier. "Though you've got a pretty precise grasp of that already. Ever use a lightsaber?"

"How fortunate for you, dear Shakti. I hard to start training when I was a toddler. And yes, I have used a lightsaber and as a matter of fact, I already have one of my own."

A smartellic grin creased upon Auron's lips as he huffed out a sigh. Truly, Shakti's naiveness about the Marzullos was refreshing and not at all bothersome as he had intially thought. And knowing that her methods were not at allof the macabre style had made this trip all the more bittersweet.

"How long had it been until you had gotten a lightsaber? A real one and not none of those pathetic training ones."

"Well!" she exclaimed. "Already an expert you are. You're just doing your damndest to make my life easier, aren't you?" Shakti gave Auron an exaggerated frown of disapproval. "That isn't very Sithlike of you. But in all seriousness. I didn't end up with a lightsaber of my own--as opposed to the little babysabers--until I built one under my master. My hometown wasn't exactly exploding with training opportunities, and Force users were hard to come by."

Shakti brushed aside thoughts of her home, partly because she was getting the distinct mind-reader vibe from Auron, and while she wasn't ashamed that her idiot family was more attached to their idiot religion than to their own children, it would be distracting. For both of them.

"Since you're already set up with the hardware you'll need, and we can skip the boring preliminary Force 101 crap, why don't you get settled in here and we can meet tomorrow. We can either use that time to spar and see where you are combat-wise, or we can do a walkabout while I tell you a bit about the people here. Whichever you're more interested in when the time comes."

"Well I do enjoy knowing about those that possibly in the future I'm going to be killing."

There had been nothing light-hearted in his tone, his words filled with discord. There had been diabolical scheme weighing in the balance and as of this moment, Shakit had been removed from such danger. Noticing the rage encompassing his aura, Auron grimaced as he shifted to something a smidge lighter.

"I would also be pleased with a spar. Nothing like shwoing myself off..."

A laugh, an unearthly sound, bucked out after his words; Auron was ever more arrogant than his father and than in itself was a feat.

"Well, I suppose I shall turn in."
